Please Help - Car wont start
Discussion
I have just put an audio amp in the boot and thus have had to disconect the battery. The alarm's been going off as expected. However, after putting it back, I now can't start the car. The starter motor is turning the engine, but it won't fire. Had Mr AA guy out but no luck. I've got ignition/spark etc.., but no fuel? Will the alarm have triggerd the fuel cut off?I've pressed what i think is the inertia cut off switch in the boot above the fuel tank, but no luck,or does the immobilser want resetting?
If I've touched the -/+ terminals on the battery together, which i did, will this cause problems.

Where did you wire the supplies to the amplifier from? Did you take a supply from the fuse panel or direct from the battery?
You mentioned shorting out the battery, did you short anything out in the boot? There is a fuel pump fuse and relay on the fuse panel (relay #4 and fuse #19) check that the fuse is OK and the relay is seated properly. Is there any other electrical stuff that's suddenly stopped working?

The amp is connected up to the fuse box in the boot.
I've checked all the fuses and checked the relays to see if they are located correctly, but they seem ok.
No other problems that i can see. Not sure whether its the immobiliser playing up or whether its the fuel pump/inertia switch. I'm at a complete loss.

Hmmm...
The immobiliser tends to shut off the ignition side of things which does include the pump. If the rest of the ignition works normally, (ie will power up the car and turn over the engine) it looks like the immobiliser is OK.
I guess you must have had the fuse box apart in order to gain access to power? These fuse boxes (Ford part,I believe) are a bit flimsy, might be worth checking that nothing has become disconnected internally as a result fitting the amp.
Try tracing the pump wiring back to the fusebox and if possible check for continuity with a meter. Inertia switch tends to trip as a result of a big bump so unlikely that is the cause.
As mentioned before, carefully recheck all the things touched during the installation. Good luck.
