Simple question really - given the wealth of knowledge and experience here, how many of you reckon a Cerbera could handle 40 - 50,000 miles a year reliably... and more to the point could my wallet????

All depends how big your wallet is.

Going on say £800 for a 6K and £1200 (main dealer) for a 12K then you are looking at £8K a year just in servicing!

Fair play to you if you do it, 50K miles in a Cerb would be a lovely prospect.

But as Car say Cerbera more of a mistress than a servant.

Matt.

On top of huge running costs while the the cerbera is an exhilarating drive, it will not offer the soothing long distance cruising that a eurobox can.

The service costs could be high, you may find the exciting sounds the engine makes a little bit of a pain over thousands of miles, your car stereo will have to be strong and good quality, virtually no storage for work "bits" inside, and if you've half-hide or full-hide then your lower extremities may perspire on hot days, even with air-con on (lots of heat generated internally in these things). That's just stuff to consider, not negative ... the best car I've ever had ... just wouldn't want to do zillions of miles in it that's all.

My cerb used to be a company car. It was doing about 12k per year at the time. The guy who had it thought it was great. 50-60k per year is a bit different, though

The problem would be being without the cerb when the breakages happen.

Part of having a company car is that when you need to travel on business you:

1) Have the car available

2) Get there reliably

Many owners put up with the "niggles" which involves stays at the dealership - but when you've got client/appointment waiting it's a different story?

Absolutely no chance mondeoman - and anyone that says differently is talking bollks

It's just not that sort of car.

TVRs are often off the road due to delays in sourcing parts, so regardless of whether that car could actually take that sort of battering, you would have to factor in down-time (and another car) to see you through the times the Cerbera is off the road.

Buy the Cerbera through the business anyway and use it for fun. Save up your pocket money and get yourself an errr.... Mondeo - oops, you already have!

Due to the high CO2 emissions, you would be looking at 35% list price being assessed as "car benefit" on your P11D.

For a £55k car, you would be paying tax close to £8k p.a.

If the company pays for private fuel, add another £1k or so ie total tax charge about £9k-£10k per year to have a 4.5 Cerb as a company car.
