Thinking about a cerbie and was wondering which model is best. I appreciate that is a hard question but wanted to know if anyone has driven all three and knows?? Also, is the cerbie just a 'point and go' grand tourer or can it handel as well as the rest ?

thanx.

These are just personel opinions and I'm sure others will disagree but I found that the Speed Six offered a more refined, less hard going ride and was a bit quieter in the cabin (Could be viewed as a good or bad thing!). Still had a large grunt to it though when you "gave it some" and blew everything else on the road away.

The 4.5 was noticably quicker, definatly louder and had that extra "brown pants" feel to it. The ride was fairly unforgiving though and you get a proper shaking on anything but a perfectly flat road.

In the end I went for the Speed Six as I have to use the car everyday...and I like to be able to hear the stereo on the motorway ! I guess if it was a weekend job I'd have gone for the 4.5...

If you're going to buy one make sure you try both /all three!

All the mags/TV punters rave about the speed six and it is a great engine, rated the best Cerb to go for. However on advice from a dealer when viewing the cerbs was avoid the speed six as they have had numerous Tuscans/cerbs back for major surgery, something to do with TVR outsourcing some components, not too sure if this applies to later sixes ie post Tuscans. Do be prepared for breakdowns the dealer did say if you buy any Cerb expect it to breakdown, an honest car salesman and unfortunately spot on. However minor problems back up from them was and is great, mines a 4.2 and absolutely love it, use it every day to/from and for business, hates traffic, so does my leg with the clutch once clear of the traffic a blast and it is back on tune and popping away merrily on overrun, sad but a great stress buster after work. It may be a slight pain at times clutch hydraulics went, knocking noises from back but still cheaper than my girlfriend plus the added bonus of the noise you cannot hear her (Sorry for sexist comment only joking) in reality she is as keen on it as I am still fighting her off the keys, well imobiliser.
So back to it, well 4.2 and 4.5 great cars, not much in performance that you would notice on the road but the key is go for as late a model as you can afford, early 4.2s leaked oil from the crankshaft and the electric's were a bit unreliable, suggest main dealer, few grand more but piece of mind, don't worry if it has a number of miles on it, ie plus 20k as if it has had faults most will be sorted. I guess at the end of the day it is down to a bit of luck, some will say they have spent 1,000s some will say not a bean.
Anyway hope it helps and sorry for the waffle not really a TVR shareholder !!!!!, best of luck and happy hunting.

for what its worth - yep i've driven all three. Speed six is more refined and easier to drive but do you really want the hassle of that engine? Resale can be a nightmare because I'm not the only one who has doubts about the engine.

The 4.2 is harder riding and the power delivery is very different - more of a drivers car but then thats just my opinion.

The 4.5 is simply awesome and if anyone with a 4.2 really believes that there is not much in it, come and try it at the lights.

If you really have got the choice... 4.5 everytime.

Oh, and yes they do handle (mostly sideways). Yeeha.
