I hope you can help me with my clutch problems.

The car is running great, and then gradually the gears have become harder to select. Up changes are OK, but down changes are difficult. Selecting 1st/Rev is very diffcult indeed

The clutch is 12,000 miles old (the first clutch lasted 23,000) and the seals have recently been replaced. There is no slipping during full acceleration in any gear, and the pedal feel is firm and has not changed.

I believe that the pedal travel needs to be adjusted slightly, but have no idea how. Does anyone here know how that is done? Also any tips for working in the drivers footwell would be much appreciated!!

TIA.

My car has suffered from the same problem ever since it had a new clutch fitted (about 6000 miles ago!). Apparently it is due to the clutch dragging slightly, i.e. the springs that operate the clutch not being 'springy' enough. I think it can be cured, but would require a fair bit of labour to get to the clutch, so I have never bothered to get it done.

I may well be talking absolute bollox, so feel free to ignore this!

Had the samething with mine 3 weeks after I bought it privately. The friction material had begun to come loose from the plates. I found gear changes very difficult and first gear near impossible to engage. I ended up needing a new clutch and fly wheel. The car only had 9K on it, hopefully this one will be a bit better. Hope your prob is not so serious. Good luck.

Had similar thing on my which Ive had 3 weeks. Its just done 24K on 1st clutch ans seems hard to get into 2nd when changing down or 1st unless stationary.
Rang mole valley and they said check fluids as if its not slipping it shouldnt be clutch wear. The fluids were down a bit and the seals OK, but this seems to be the most common problem. In the last week it seems to have got better and I hop its just me getting used to it and not the calm before the storm.

So, if it is the clutch (worse case scenario), what is the likely cost?

The car has had the 4.5 clutch upgrade completed on it, so I guess it is the cost of a 4.5 clutch?

Any information would be great, since I can then start saving my pennies!!

I would suggest that you check your clutch master cylinder first, located above your pedal box accessed via the engine bay. (Where it normally leaks water)
