i fitted a oil temp gauge last weekend(well with some help from my local friendly joolzmeister).
its working great, but does give some backing to the often mentioned warm up time thats required when starting from cold.
i tested it last night and it took 11 miles of moving with the general traffic to reach 50-55c.
after that if using some gas or standing still it goes up to around 65-70c.
when the water temp first gets to around 80c the oil gauge hasn't even moved!
so the message is give it some time.
its a useful addition i think,it even matches the rest of the gauges.

Fantastic,
Often thought of doing this, what make of gauge did you go for? Did you need a separate sender or can you use the MBE (unlikely I know but....)?
Where did you put the sender (assuming you needed it)?
Sorry for all the questions but I feel this is one of the best mods you can do to your car to help ensure its overall longevity.

i'll get some pics up.
yes you need a sender.
its mounted on the oil filter housing.
its a smiths/caerbont gauge as used on original equipment.so it matches.
i've put the gauge in the centre console(6x9 removed)along with the screen for my road pilot.
as i say i'll get a picture up

I've always thought an oil temp gauge would be a better use for the space currently used for the clock. I'd quite happily do without the clock.
When warming the engine up, it goes through 3 stages in my mind:
cold: keep revs to a minimum, certainly nothing above2.5K
warm: after about 6-8 miles - oil pressure is dropping at idle. Rev limit 3.5K
hot: after about 15 miles. Rev limit 7K!
I use Mobil 0w40. Although this is often critisised as being too thin, I reckon it suits my needs as I use the car for commuting 2 days a week all year round, i.e. lots of relatively short journeys. I want an oil that can lubricate properly when cold.
I never see the oil pressure drop below 15psi when idle, even after a thrashing.

My V8 4.5 AJP starts off at 80psi. When hot it is just under 80 psi when my foot is flat to the floor.
At cruise it is about 70pis.
At idle it is about 40psi or slightly over.
Apparently TVR fit better springs these says and so you get better readings. It is worth considering getting a new spring fitted.
