Anyone encountered a similar problem;

When I press the windscreen washer nothing comes out of the jets but noticed that the fluid is going on the floor instead. There's pressure there cos I can hear the motor working.

It looks like either a break in the hose/s or it's come away somewhere from the reservoir.

Is this common?
An easy fix?
Back to dealer job?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks T.

Usually it's just the hose melted on the exhaust mainfold where it's not been routed correctly. It's an easy fix you can get lenghts of hose from Halfords and the like.

Have fun Steve,

Wierd,

Mine was not working (I think) so I told TMS and they fixed it. However still no noise from it (I expected to hear a motor type noise). Does everyone else hear a noise from their windscreen washers?

I would start at the wipers and work my way backwards towards the pump. Never tried it, just trying to be logical I s'pose ... the connectors are almost all push-fit so shouldn't take too long. In fact, not sure where the pump actually resides ... if its' inside the dash then you might want to forget testing as its gonna p*ss fluid all over your dash internals which won't do it any good.

Ours buzzes slightly when you use the wash/wipe, but you can only hear it at a stand still (anything more than stand still, and the exhaust drowns out any noise !)

Just had same problem. Had to remove the cover below windscreen/under bonnet. The water pipe had come away from first part of water pipe.

In the same camp ... However, g/f refuses to drive the car as long as she can't clear the windscreen ...

No surprise then that I'm lacking motivation to start working back to identify source of the problem. In the meantime, no nervous waiting until I see Cerb pulling safely back into the garage ....

Besides, weekly Autoglym Glass Polish treatment removes the bugs ....

Cheers for all the advice and help peeps.

Taking it to Castles on Friday so they will sort it out for me then (hopefully), just found out I'm running on half throttle so cleaning the ol' windscreen is least of my problems at the mo. Looks like I've got a throttle linkage/pots problem!!!

Mines a 96, and has the washer pump located on the side of the resevoir bottle, mounted under the anterior engine cover. Same happened to me, tubing melted against the manifold and sealed the tube to the washers, but created a small hole in the tube leaking water everywhere.
Fixed it with Halfords silicon tubing, but then experienced another problem.... it would take several presses of the wash/wipe button to get anything onto the screen. Cause? the slightly larger diameter of the Halfords tube combined with the smoother internal bore, causes the water to slip back down the pipe away from the wipers...Cure? back to Halfords to buy an in-line single way valve that is fitted near the wipers, thereby stopping backflow to the reservoir.
