Speed 6 Buying

I am going to have a look at a private sale 99/T Speed 6 today. The mileage is 33000 apparantly with no rebuilds, is this a good thing or will it likely need a rebuild soon? If it does how much will it cost. What should I be looking for when looking at the car. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Nick.

I would say that if true, a Speed6 with no engine rebuilds after that length of time, and mileage is a sign that this engine did not suffer from any of the component quality issues which some Speed 6 engines have.

I wouldn't believe the no rebuilds bit. Ask the factory and all previous dealers about the car, and all previous owners if possible.

If they say yes it has been rebuilt then that is good news and if they say no it hasnt then that is also good news ?

Just dropped you an email regarding my car. All to watch out for on rebuilds is that the car has got some reliable running miles under its belt since the work has been done. Or if not that the work is guaranteed for what you see as an acceptible period of time.

My 99/T S6 has done 19k miles, has had no rebuilds, and the engine has been given the nod of approval by Andy at APM. S6 engine reliability seems to depend upon the timing of the build and whether its build coincided with the usage of batches of good quality components. (Given that mine seems to be OK, your potential purchase may be too). Nevertheless, while I'm now feeling pretty good about my own vehicle, you should understand the history of any potential purchase and have it checked over by an expert, such as Andy.

And now that I have seriously tempted fate, I need to go away and find a large log to hug before my car blows up on me this weekend...!

Poor components aside, I thought that TVr originally needed to alter the heads to allow more oil flow to the cams, which all sp6 would need. In conjunction they also increased the bore of the hosing to increase engine oil psi. My one (now sadly sold) had all this done in 2000/2001.

Test drove the car today. I loved it! Speed6 engine has a far nicer sound than the V8 IMHO. Couple of issues with it, wheel vibrated under braking even though the car had new disks/pads. Also some small holes in the body around one of the front indicators.
Waddler are you out their, I will definately buy a speed6 cerbie, what are you asking for yours?
