I know there's another forum for this but I thought I'd ask fellow Cerbera owners first.

I want to start doing track days and as I'm new to this I wanted some advice on where to start out and who best to book with, novices day obviously first. Would prefer to go where other Cerbera owners go or have knowledge of.

Grateful for any help.

T, im going up to croft this sunday for a trackday in my cerb, you can ring the circuit direct to book, or failing that there is a tvr trackday at mallory on june 3rd at which I will be instructing for tvr, cost is £130 for the day and the instruction I beleive is free.

Regards

Tony.

Just been to Snetterton for the city region track day, I’d recommend going to a event organised by the TVRCC as if this was anything to go by they are extremely well run events. Free instruction was available but I didn’t use one this time. Also found the bookatrack event I went to last year was well run and I benefited greatly from the instructor well worth the extra £20.

You'll need a helmet but I’d get used to your car on track the way it is before modifying it, then you can decide what you need to change if anything.

Have fun

The track day at Snet on Monday was a great laugh - although, as is typical with TVR events there was a lot of waiting around between sessions. This is not their fault, its just because of the sheer numbers of gorgeous machinery sat in the paddock.

Following up on Paul's advice, I'd go with a TVRCC event because they are usually sessioned.. meaning you get out on the track with drivers of similar experience and don't have to worry too much about Danny's little black demon screaming past your left wing mirror!

However, if my on track experience with a Cerbera is anything to go by you should budget for more than just a helmet (Type A, BTW). You will almost certainly lunch your front discs if you are running the standard fit AP items and probably need new pads. You will take several thousand miles off your tyres and various other stuff gets a good shake up. And, if you don't suffer these minor irritations you're just not trying!

However, hitting the rev limiter in the first 4 gears is worth the money everytime.. what a rush!

cerb disks are very large AP racing items and the disks are the same fit as the Jaguar XJ220

if you follow reccomended advice and perform one or perhaps 2 low speed cooling down laps without brakes and remember not to use the handbrake then your brakes should easily stand up to some circuit use

Tyres may wear but add 5-6PSI and it helps, I spent a day at Donnington on sunday and found the Toyo's fitted to the new cars stand up very well with almost no effect evident following a hard days use.

Cheers for all the advice chaps. Looks like the TVRCC event is the one to go for to start with.

P.S. What's special about Danny's motor, I've read a few threads about his one being rapid?

Big T,

Your car wouldn't be Azure blue with flint and prussian half hide would it?!

I agree with Benno. I did a day at Bedford Autodrome in my old 2001 4.5 LW and both brakes and tyres (TOYOS) stood up well. Spent a few laps warming everything up each time and a couple of laps at the end of the session cooling it all down, barely any braking at all on the cooling down laps just steady cruise around the circuit. I was running Mintex 1155 pads so I imagine the disks got hotter than they might've done on standard pads. Had no trouble at all. I think this venue is ideal too as there is so much run off area. Yes, there were guys lapping faster than me but if you keep out of the way there's no problem.

Dannys old Cerbera was the most powerful cerb (that had been on a rolling road) out there with full Red Rose treatment. It also had monster brakes (8-pot Brembo WRC) and fully adjustable Nitrons all round.

However I think the car mentioned below is Dannys new car - a Radical, which is understandably a devistatingly quick trackday weapon

Yes it would Washy and I think that's your old car. Just looked at your name and I'm sure it rings a bell and the chaps at Castle said the old owner swapped it for a new one, RR if I'm correct in the same colour, (lovely choice).

Well how about that!! Nice to see it's gone to a good home. I fitted Mintex 1155's and fresh brake fluid in January so if Castle haven't taken them off you're on your way re track days. That set up worked fine for me. A little noisy when cold though.

I thought that might have been yours when looking at your replies to the thread regarding 4.5 vs RR at the beginning of the month. Lovely car washy and it's definately gone to a good home, it's my pride and joy and lucky to have this as my first Cerbera. Not sure what brakes are on there, I'll have a look tonight, bonus if they are ready for track days. They do squeal alot though when cold, I know that much.

Good to know a PH'er previously owned the car.

All good advice, but if your brakes start fading after a few hard laps, then the only option is to slow down. Modified suspension will mean you're braking from higher speed and will require more energy (even if you're braking to a relatively higher speed than before). Especially a problem at Bedford, since the huge run off means more fun!

The 8-pot brembos (zero fade guaranteed!) are still up for sale if anyone is interested!

I think some Cerbera's eat discs more than others - I went through quite a few sets of pads, but only a single set of discs in 18k miles and quite a few track days.

The demon black Radical only comes screaming past after a friendly indicator first, honest! :-)

I'd also say a bookatrack event would be perfect, and easier/quicker to book on www.bookatrack.com. They always have quite a few novices on every day I've been, and are very welcoming and reassuring, and deal with transgressors well.
