Why do starter motors seem to fail so often on the Cerbera's?

I dont know why they go so frequently, but if you need one speak to Tim at Curds in Tunbridge Wells.

Buys direct from manufacturer, and saves a fair bit!

They seem to get cooked due to their location on top of the gearbox, above and between the exhausts. I'm on my 3rd now, car is only 4.5 years old!

I tried an alternative to the standard starter at the last change to try and get more life. Even worse, went through 2 in one day. Fit the first one and start the car, all fine. Go for a run, come back, stop and restart engine, motor is seized solid. Try a second new starter, same problem. Fine when cold and seized up solid when hot. Chose to fit an original starter on the third attempt. 45 minute job turned into 5 hours.

Demon Tweeks offer an insulated jacket which is supposed to prevent the starter from being cooked.

Has anyone had any experience of these?

Castle TVR Stanstead provided a recon starter motor for my 4.5 Cerb, seems to have cured the problem....

Damn...there's no little icon for 'fingers crossed'!!!!!!
