Clarkson did a vid with this in it a while ago.

early(ish) 4.2 Cerb destoyed
AM Vantage
Esprit V8
993 TT
Caterham R500
Viper

I think a 996 TT would be pretty much on a par with a Cerb nowadays...
Either way, Cerb is a rocketship...

well, what other cars can the 4.2 trash, not including what was featured in that video..... hasn't anyone trashed any porsche turbo's, ferrari's, or lambo's.....
any of the modern supercars.. I've heard many times on how bias top gear and jeremy clarkson are about british cars when comparing them with other cars. I've also been told that the video actually featured a cerbera with a 4.5 developement engine and not a 4.2 at all as jeremy claimed. So i cant rely on the video and need some real proof.

In which case I highly recommend hiring yourself an early 4.2 Cerb and going 911TT hunting. Hey, even if you don't win it'll be fun!

I have a 4.5 and have previously owned a 911 T2(genuine 355bhp), not exactly the comparision your'e looking for but for what its worth I'm sure the Cerbera would leave the T2 after 100+mph. Also worth mentioning is that a friend who has a 4.5 LW is about to chop it for a 993 T4 and he was crazy about the Cerbera until he drove the Porker. Not conclusive I know but interesting all the same.

I've just arrived back from an evening out in a 996 turbo. Sorry guys, but I can't see any way the Cerb would keep up in a straight line .. let alone on a corner!!

You need to drive a 400bhp Cerbera with decent suspension then!

This subject has been done before, and the consensus from those that know was that it was a 4.2.

BTW the 4.2s are generally quicker than the 4.5s

I would have to say that in straight line a sorted Cerb would outdrag ANYTHING other than serious £200k+ machinery (I have been on trackdays with 996 Turbo).

It has to be experienced to be believed....

How did you come to this conclusion? And ignoring the wealth of dyno evidence? It's more down to the individual cars, but 4.5's certainly have more low down torque.

Well I've driven both and raced with both and in a straight line there is very little in it. They are pretty equal up until 100mph then the Cerb will pull away slightly. As for cornering the Porsche won every time, but the Cerb was standard I don't know if suspension alterations would have improved this any.

I don't know about super cars but I have met high end modded Skylines (550+ bhp) who were faster in both a straight line and totally out cornered the TVR

With respect a milk float with 550bhp mods and gearing would outdrag both too.

I hate comparing cars modified to that degree. What a total waste of money for a start - just buy a better car in the first place

Suspension alterations, notably decent dampers make a huge difference to the Cerbera.

I've driven a Dialblo SV at full noise up to about 130mph and while it was VERY fast, I'd say the early Cerbera 4.2 I drove a couple of months back was even faster up to that point, just ferocious through the gears, as already mentioned you have to experience it to believe it!

I can certainly confirm that my Cerb is far more rapid than the young Asian chap in his new M3 that decided to pick a fight on the A6 today. I managed to glance across as I went past and saw the utter dismay on his face

Don't forget Jeremy CLarkson put the Diable against the Aston Vantage and the Vantage won, the Cerbera destroyed the Aston on the standing mile, therefore IS quicker than a Diablo.

Have to say (and I am an avid defender of the Cerbera's reputation) but having been in a 996 TT and having owned and been in various Cerberas the 996TT is just miles ahead - ok maybe not on a the straight (although I would think there is little in it) but once yoiu get twists and turns the 996 is gone...tweak the suspension all you want guys you will not catch a Turbo porsche - Cerbies are awesome but the 996 TT is frightening the way it gets you round everything at speed.....be very surprised if a cerbera outpaces a 996 at Bruntingthorpe...
