Had my cerbera 4.5 de-catted at the weekend. The car is a v/2000 Lightweight with just over 18k miles, purchased from a TVR main dealer with around 16 months of warranty remaining. I have enjoyed around 1200 problem free miles in the 4 months of owning my very first TVR.

The guys down at Peninsula Automotive, who did my de-cat, also performed a F.O.C winter check on my car.

OH DEAR !

Tagged on the bottom of my invoice was the workshops report, which indicated the following items requiring attention:

1. Battery in poor condition (77%)
2. O/S/F Light cover missing
3. O/S/F tyre worn on inner edge
4. 4 x CV boots cracked
5. Play in O/S Diff output bearing
6. Rear break flexi-hoses starting to blister
7. O/S/R Anti-roll bar bushes moved
8. O/S Diff mounting split
9. Top Diff mounting split
10. N/S/R Shock absorber damp (leaking)
11. N/S/R Lower wishbone bush split & soft
12. Slight oil leak form engine

Aaaarggghhhhh !!!!!!!

Hopefully someone out there will be able to clarify my position here.

A. How much of this should be covered by my warranty ?

B. Having bought this car from a TVR main dealer should I not have been informed of the impending work that is goign to be required ?. Also what are my chances of the dealer in question making good on some of these items at their cost.

Thanks in advance.

depends on the warranty I think....read the small print....who did you buy it from? Maybe worth a call to them....penninsula have a pretty good reputation from what i can gather and so are unlikely to be having you on...oh yes and they are reasonable pricewise too so if if your warranty doesnt cover it at least you wont get fleeced into the bargain
good luck

James,
give your warranty company a ring and for the items that they question, stress the fact that they need replacing long before they ought to be.

If they still refuse some items, and you have no luck with Peninsula, contact Julian Lane (Joolz--his email is joolz@joospeed.net), who is very cheap. He is up in Harrogate, though. Is that far from you?

Regards,
Faisal.

Sorry, but this doesn't seem right to me or maybe you have been giving it some serious welly, every day!!

You've owned the car 4 months and bought it from a main dealer. How can all that go wrong in such short space of time and mileage?

Cheers

It rather depends on whether your 16 months warranty is including some 1 yr factory warranty, or whether it's all "Warranty Holdings". If it's Warranty Holdings, your chances of free repairs are less...! From my limited experience (I'm not a technician of any sort!!), not too much WH items on there - going from the mileage of the car:

1. Battery in poor condition (77%) --no warranty
2. O/S/F Light cover missing --no warranty
3. O/S/F tyre worn on inner edge --no warranty - when was it last replaced?
4. 4 x CV boots cracked --dunno what this is...
5. Play in O/S Diff output bearing --might well be warranty item
6. Rear break flexi-hoses starting to blister --could be warranty; doesn't seem "fair wear and tear"
7. O/S/R Anti-roll bar bushes moved -- no warranty
8. O/S Diff mounting split --"fair wear and tear" - maybe not if factory warranty
9. Top Diff mounting split --"fair wear and tear" - maybe not if factory warranty
10. N/S/R Shock absorber damp (leaking) --"fair wear and tear" - maybe not if factory warranty
11. N/S/R Lower wishbone bush split & soft --unusual but had it on my 20000 miles 4.5 as well.
12. Slight oil leak form engine --do you have 2 years' factory engine warranty? Might fall under that. Otherwise, maybe it can be "cured" by topping up the old Mobil 1 a bit more often (better check that though!!)

-- Good point, much again depends on the sort of warranty you have. You'd be surprised however how all of a sudden lots of things can happen in 4 months...! (according to dealers)

Welcome to the wonderful world of TVR ownership...
