Went to Elvington on Sunday and had a few runs up the 1/4 and top speed track.

Can my speedo be this much out? Speedo indicated 170, speed trap indicated 150-155. Had the GPS aswell, but when doing that speed couldn't bring myself to take my eyes off the road.

Anyways - only managed a 13.46 quater mile, so has anyone done it quicker?

A few people in the egroups had 12's for 1/4 mile times. Havent checked ours up to 170, but up to 130 its very accurate against a gps unit thingy.

Do you know when the next Elvington event is? or can you just turn up?

Reset the max speed on your GPS and see what it records? Mine is (err, was) dead accurate up to 5th gear, and several people have checked higher.

PS Nothing wrong with 13.5 1/4 mile - it is HIGHLY dependent on conditions, i.e. the tarmac, moisture, temperature of tyres, temperature of track. With a nice hot day and a 2nd gear burn out, and an engine on song, it should be easy to get under 13. 12.3 is the best I've heard of.

There's another chance on the 27th April, so I'm aiming to perfect my starting technique.

Standing start - 1/4 mile timing then keep pressing on till you reach the end of the 1.5 mile runway, where the speed trap is.

I only did three runs as I was scared of breaking something but will try again next month if its a nice day.
