Am I correct in thinking that there was a problem with the cams and clutch on early Cerberas and the cars were recalled? If so, how can you tell if a car has had the upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

in my experience of buying a car with early cams and clutch the answer is there was no recall... bank on spending 2K for the clutch upgrade and 2-3K for the Cams.

best advice seems to be only to sort them if and when they go.. my car is apparently unusual to ahve got to 30K with its cams and clutch.. although the clutch slave is now leaking...

but there are chaps on this forum with later cars who have had clutches go too..

My late '96 car is on original cams at 39000 miles, and at last service was told by Joolz they still had quite a bit of life left in them. Flipping noisy, but the car does fly!!

No 'official' recall. Some cars will have been updated, others not - some will have been updated FOC, other owners will have paid. If they haven't been done by now then a) they will go, and b) they will cost. In terms of the clutch, it's not just the new style slave cylinder you will need but new flywheel, bolt kit etc etc...as other have mentioned up to £1.5K! Also, as the cams don't have timing marks it's not just a drop-in job either, but at least you'll get the valves reset again.

Kind of brings some of the 'cheap' Cerbies into focus

...but hey, mine's all updated, for sale, yadda yadda yadda...
