Wife in car with 2 kids. Leaving Brighton on Sunday pm, heading towards London on the A23.

Just come off a roundabout and accelerating……40…50…60….70…..80…. when ‘pop’ suddenly lost all pressure on the throttle. Foot still on pedal now against the wall / floor behind the pedal but with zero resistance. In the end, managed to steer the car to a safe spot.

Thankfully, RAC appeared within 20 minutes and ‘temporarily’ fixed the accelerator cable within a further 30 minutes. Very polite chap and appeared quite knowledgeable.

The diagnosis was that the cable entering the car was not properly aligned and therefore there was a kink in the cable which created unnecessary pressure.

Has anyone else experienced this and should I expect an expensive repair bill?

Thanks

Sort of - My cable frayed and got caught on the sheeth at the engine end - It got stuck in the very loud position - very scarey.
A new cable cost about £40 + 1 hour labour - £100 total

It's common Cerb problem ! Ours got so heavy, that I thought it was going to snap if I didn't replace it. But I wasn't going to pay a dealer to fit it, so spent a few hours crawling round the drive fitting a new one (and got rid of the stupid kinks in the cable in the process).

There is a write up of how to change it here :
