Chim 500 vs 4.2 Cerb (new guy)
Discussion
Greetings to all,
I have just sold my Chim 500.
And i'm looking for a 4.2/4.5 .Has anyone on the list
recently made the same move? how does the Cerb handle
compared to the Chim? Do the AJP motors have the Same
lowdown grunt as the rover v8? Has anyone (on a track
day ofcourse ) done a 'head 2 head'.
recently i did a h 2 h, with a friend who has a
Tuscan , not much in it to say 50ish , and then
it was bye bye time . So please , tell all !
i know its probably old hat . But any input would
be great.
Stas. ;-)

I went from a Griff 500 to Cerb 4.2. Handling is in a different league - the Griff was stiff and handled bumpy roads quite 'skittishly'. The Cerb has a much longer wheelbase and seemed to have softer damper settings and so was much much easier to drive. Also, much easier to hang the tail out too - the Griff always got my heart in my mouth when it let go - the Cerb is much more under control.
Also, if it's important, i'm much happier for the other half to drive the Cerb. in wet weather than the Griff. It's just more planted. Oddly enough, a friend had an early Tuscan with 18" wheels and said the Cerb was much better handling over back-roads. But I think they've faffed with the Tuscan since then.
As for performance, there's certainly much more grunt low down in a 500 - driving in the snow/ice was always tricky. But I felt that the Griff ran out of puff as the revs rose. With the Cerb, that's not the case, it just gets faster and faster and faster, all the way up to the redline. So, a little like a 16v compared to an 8v really. I reckon it's faster, but you've got to grab it by the scruff of the neck.
