I just wanted to know if anyone has a had a similar problem.
I've narrowed it down to two companies that I would like to use to provide me with warranty cover for when I purchase my Cerbera. 1). Warranty Holdings and 2). Car Care Plan.
I am swung in favour of CCP from some recommendations I have heard and gave them a call. They said that they could not provide me with the best cover unless it was bought through a dealer that provides their warranty and could only offer me a basic policy if I purchased it myself.
Has anyone had this problem?
Is the basic CCP cover sufficient?
Is this the case with WH also?
If this is the case and I'm not being fobbed off, I would imagine it would be best to buy the car from a dealer. But say if the dealer does not provide the warranty that you want? Does anyone know of getting a dealer to use a customers preferred warranty?
Sorry to bring the old warranty thing up again.

Hey -
I bought my cerbera privately and bought a warranty direct from WH. I got better cover than the Spirit warranty offered by TVR (no max. limit per claim), and for a lot less than the dealers would have charged.
When I checked, all the dealers I have spoken to and quite a few independants have no problem getting work done under a warranty, even if you didnt buy it from them - remember you'll be dealing with the workshop, not the salesman keen to sell you an overpriced warranty. Also, depends on their relationship with the warranty company it seems - check with the service dpt. of the dealer you propose to use.
I wouldnt worry too much about buying from a dealer simply because of the warranty - there are ways and means round it, and a number of excellent garages who will do the work and fight your corner with the warranty company.
It seems this is one of the few reasons left main dealers can still use for inflating their prices so much!
Cheers,
Tommo

- Strange! I spoke to the Renewals Dpt. - they were quite happy to sell me one direct. Just tell them its for a TVR with a WH backed Spirit warranty that has now lapsed - I went for their Gold warranty as it offered better terms than Spirit (and was cheaper), which now has a max. amount per claim.
Also, I know that a no. of independants such as Team Proactive will sell you one cheaper than the dealer - just make sure your happy with the max. limit per claim the warranty companies try to slap on.

I have just called them also and I got the same response. I was told I had to purchase a policy through a dealer. I wouldn't see this being a problem if buying through a dealer as I would imagine most dealers deal with WH but privately would cause a problem.

How effective has it been with claims (if you've had to claim that is) on your WH policy?

Not had to test it yet! Just made sure when I bought it that there was no restriction on upper claim limit -as this seems to be the warranty companies growing policy when it comes to Cerberas - wonder why?!?
Also, before I bought it I made sure that all the dealers I may use for work, plus the independants were happy with making WH claims. Some were more enthusiastic than others for a fight - as I said, check with your preferred dealer and if not happy, find one that will fight your corner.
Good luck with the hunt.

I bought my first WH warranty with my car at a main dealer. When the warranty expired I just went straight back to WH and got it for £250 less than I was charged when I went through the dealer ! (Some TVR dealer rip-offs going on here !)
In the end I found WH a waste of money ( maybe it was the people at the TVR garage who were supposed to be fighting my corner??). They argued about everything and pretty much refused to pay out on all but the most obvious of things (e.g. radiator) blaming everything on wear and tear. When the engine went, I thought WH have got to pay out... they didn't want to know !
I'd save the money and spend it on repairs with a good independent.

I bought my Cerb privately around six months ago with 18 months' WH warranty left. The new policy (which was supposed to begin on 28/2/03) was not recognised on their system, despite my having all the original paperwork, etc. The upshot is that it has taken six months and countless phone calls to sort out transfer of said policy, and even now I'm still waiting for the new paperwork to come through. WH only really got moving after I had contacted Trading Standards.
Makes me wonder how easy they'd be to deal with if I were ever to make a claim.....

I know this is TVR thread but I have knowledge of WH when I brought my Jag.
Jag came with a six month warranty from a dealer just before the 6 months came to end, the power steering system developed a leak and it turned out it was a power steering fluid filter that was leaking at the joints. Took it to a local dealer and asked them to check it out and gave them WH number. They called me back the same day to say WH wouldn't cover it, saying that it was a normal wear & tear service item that wasn't covered by their policy, checked this with Jag and they said no it isn't. But WH still wouldn't pay out. Luckily it was pretty cheap.
Funnily enough when WH asked me if I wanted to renew the policy they thought it strange when I told them F*** off!!
I don't have a warranty on the Cerbie, I have considered it, but I find warranty companies very slippery customers. I would rather plum the money into fixing the car rather than wasting it on the warranty muppets.
