I have heard of people noticing this when their main charging fuse is on the way out. If you are having problems with charging then this is likely to be the problem.
Since it is a cheap thing to try it might be worth changing this anyway, since Cerbera's are reputed to eat their way through these fuses at an alarming rate.
Do a search, and you will probably find the specification of the fuse, together with how to fit it. I suspect it is a very easy job, but if the fuse is in the late stages of giving up the ghost, then your car could let you down at anytime.
Hope this helps (I am sure other suggestions will be along shortly)

I tend to agree with madasahatter, I had a similar problem when my charging fuse went.
The Charge light didn't come on as you'd expect but the Rev Counter went beserk and got worse as the battery charge dropped.
Fuse is a flat metal blade type, 100A rating, costs about £1. It's located in a black plastic cover on top of the Gearbox bellhousing. Probably need to remove bodywork in front of the windscreen to gain access. Even if it looks intact check it carefully they can simply vibrate loose and cause trouble.
