Hello everyone,

I am getting close to buying a speed six and would like a little extra info to help me select the right car.

I'm currently looking a '99 or '00 models.

Please could someone let me know in what year they removed the bolster across the top of the windscreen.

Also, are there different seat options available? The car I looked at has kind of whooped headrests and Speed Six bossed into the back. Are these standard on them all?

Thanks in advance.

I've got a 99 Speed Six... not sure what you mean about the bolster..explain ??

My headrests don't have the Speed Six emblam on them...must have been a special request ! I think the seats were only changed in 2002 model (Tuscan seats??). Not 100% on that though ?

Other changes in 2002 were lightweight body (bonnet and boot), different suspension set up and braking gear and integrated split headlights

Running across the rooflining, at the front of the cabin (basiclly, the top of the windscreen) on one of the cars I drove (it was a 4.5), there was a fairly large bolster, which the dealer said was used in place of sun visors and I guess was body stiffening too!!

Although not ugly or in the way at all, as I am fairly tall, this had the effect of closing in the cabin somewhat compared to the later version I drove without it ('01 Speed Six).

As for the seats, these are harder to describe. On the back of the seat, there was a little Speed Six badge which I thought was a lovely touch. The seats themselves we all together different too. They did not have the same headrest as I mentioned.

In addition, where the side supports are, there are gaps in the seat.

Here, I found some!!!

The car you have driven is the later car with 'improved' visibility! You could remove the seat base cushion insert and that would help a bit but that's a temporary solution. Try a couple of other cars as they all vary slightly. Also the wheel and instrument binnacle adjust in and out and up and down, and the pedals can be adjusted. Hope this helps.

Well, well - you learn something new every day.

How does that work then - where's the lever?

Its under the wheel, where you might expect the Bonnet release to be on many other cars. Look for a lever which pushes down from the Steering Column.

Just to the right of centre of the column underneath the column/binnacle. Should be in the handbook page 18!

Cor, so it is - thanks chaps.

If only I'd know, could have been worth at least another 20mph on the top end speed at Bruntingthorpe.

NewGuy,

The changes you allude to were brought in for 2000 (but as with a lot of TVR mods there is no exact date).

The thicker 'bar' across the window was NOT instead of a sunvisor (the earlier cars have sunvisors fitted). The later models have the thinner 'bar' across the top of the windscreen for better visibility as mentioned previously. With regard to the seats it seems to be personal taste with some people feeling that the newer seats (the ones you pictured) giving less lateral support than the earlier ones.

Just found this:

For the 2000 model year, lights, A pillars, roofline and seats were changed and lightweight bonnet, doors and bootlid were introduced on the Cerbera 4.5. In 2002, the headlight housings were faired into the wings for even smoother lines at the same time as the suspension being upgraded.

For 2002, all TVR Cerberas now have a new suspension set-up, the most notable parts of the which are gas-filled dampers which TVR has developed in conjunction with HBE to incorporate a highly unusual damper curve. By ramping up the rebound very quickly at higher piston speeds, traction and ride can be improved at the same time as high-speed body control.
