Battery too big
Discussion
Can anyone please help me out with a definitive answer on what battery to get for a ’98 4.5 Cerbie?
The “Battery Bible” at my local motor factors tells me I need an 069. The one that came off is an 069. The shiny new Bosch 069 that I tried to fit this morning is about half an inch taller and so will not slide in under the inner wing.
A quick visit back and a swap to another make and yes, it now slides under the wing – but then stops half an inch short of allowing it to clear the protruding stump that you bolt the plate to to hold it in place. This one is the right height, but too long.
I thought that the same model number meant the same size (or is that too simple?) I can’t find another battery of the same make as the old one so does anyone know who makes an 069 that will fit or are there other model numbers out there that work?
Thanks for your help, Fred.

Hi Fred
That protuding stud moves, or at least is supposed to. Loosen the two bolts either side of the stud and see if the plate will move outwards.
If the bolts/washers are corroded onto the plate (like mine was) you'll need to remove the bolts completely. The plate is bolted through the body and the nuts are located in the top corner of the passenger footwell. Pull out the panel in the footwell to gain access.
You'll find that the plate is slotted to allow movement. Scrape off the washers and replace them.

I got a 096 into the Cerb last week. Having left the car for 8 weeks without the conditioner plugged in old battery was dead. Halfords thankfully give a 3 year warranty on all batteries and swapped it over without any hassle.
Same problem with corroded bolt, but battery can be "gently" eased into position!!
