Hey first time blooded on this site.
But I have a 99 cerbie 4.5 and just had 24k miles service and the shop found a cracked spoke on the origonal 17" front n/s wheel. Was able to get second hand wheel fitted as needed car, but after garage talked with TVR they have offered to give me new set of wheels.
These being 18" spiders!!
Now the question is does this make the ride alot harder than the 17" wheels, and also what about stories of 18" wheels buckling easily and having to replace them all the time?
Also if i keep the 17" wheels am i able to then swap them back for a track day or other purpose, as the garage were saying that the drive shaft has to be adjusted?? I'm not quite sure what they are on about.
If anybody knows anything about this i would be gratefull for your comments.

This topic has been covered many times in the past, do a search on this forum for information.

Giving you 18" Spiders! Bet they won't give you tyres, valves, suspension mods, centre cap badges etc, still £600 worth of wheels can't be sniffed at.

Ride is a little harder with Spiders, mainly due to reduced profile tyres.

Yes they aren't as strong as the originals but they do look so much better, just stay clear of big pot holes and you'll be fine.

The drive shafts need grinding if you fit Tuscan front wheels on the rear. Fronts are fitted to the rear to stop wheel arch rubbing. Steering rack also needs a tweak to stop the tyres rubbing on full lock. Once the mods have been done you can always refit the originals.

Hi there,

I also own a 99 Cerb 4.5, with similar miles. Mine originally came with 17" alloys and the garage I bought it from offered to swap them for new 18" Spiders which took 2 weeks to come through, so I've driven with both.

The ride is hard with both - the difference is there, but hardly noticable (because it's a Cerb, not a lexus!). They make the turning circle slightly wider but they look much better. Not that I'm a poser or anything. Honest. They've certainly not buckled - and I've given them a hammering.

Enjoy.

Hey,
I did word previous chat slightly wrong, the word should not be give but sell for 500quid with everything done. Which i thought was reasonable.
Did do search and looked at old chats quite interesting. And your info about what had to be done is very usefull. And has convinced me, and has enabled my wife to see that it will work!!
And i have seen them on other cerbies and they do look awesome!!

Cheers

I have 18's on mine for over a year. They look great but do not give you much in the steering lock department. But who cares, just boot it and it will steer it's self.

Watch out for punctures in the rear as you will not know until you smell burning rubber, as I did driving up Farningham Hill in Kent one morning on the way to work!
