Hi I''m just interested if any of you have experience or advice on using normal unleaded in the 4.5 ajp cerby engine? I had a Griff 500 and was told I could use it on cars from 98 onwards (just a bit of pinking if you use a heavy right foot!). I do a lot of miles so this would be the cheaper option as long as it doesnt damage anything of course! thanks JP

JP, I put a couple of tanks of std unleaded in mine! - it was awful -pinking city!! - best stick to super Ul or stick in some octane booster. If you are looking for economy then a 4.5 cerby is not the hot ticket......

Is there any noticable performance difference? I assume you get pinking at some stage? Is it a 4.5? What year? Thanks JP

I always worry about putting regular unleaded in the tank when the sticker next to the fuel cap says 'SuperUnleaded 98 please'. It seems some of the SuperUnleaded available is only 97 (RON), so I'm trying out Shell's new Optimax. As they quote "Shell Optimax has the highest octane specification of any petrol in the UK. It is greater than 98 Research Octane Number (RON). " Well, no 'pinking' so far on my 1998 Cerbera 4.5 !!!

All SUL available is 97Ron, ignore the stickers if they say 98 as they just havent bothered to change them. Shells new optimax is not SUL but an alternative and is at least 98.5Ron (if u believe shell ;-) and should cost the same. I have to say anyone who can afford to buy and run a 4.5 Cerby can surely afford the extra £3 odd that SUL costs for a tankful, not only that but you will get better mpg with higher octane fuel anyway.
