Has anyone done this?
I'm thinking of putting a pair of cones onto the ends of the airboxes instead of the grubby foam panel that currently graces my 4.2.
Has anyone done this, & if so what are the pros & cons, & what filters have you used?
My initial concern is that the filters will suck in hot air from the engine bay at low speed & in traffic.

Darren.

Exocet has got cone filters on his car

Pros : Never need to replace them, get more induction noise, and a possible slight increase in performance

Cons : Erm......... You have to leave the standard filter box in place, but thats about it ! (well, as far as I can tell)....

Hey Darren,

I've been running mine for about a year including a very hot hour in LeMans traffic. I didn't notice any problems RE: Hot Air. My guess is the filters are far enough forward to mostly avoid this problem. Added to the fact the the Cerbie bonnet is very well ventilated compared to normal cars, it's not been a problem. Don't forget because of the location the airboxes and inlets are going to get very hot anyway (I'm guessing) so the filters only add a minor effect.

They do look and sound mighty fine though

Cheers, Steve

Aren't engines supposed to get even more dirty when fitted with cones?

Darren,

No probs, but I will need an email address to send pic to.

Can't say I find any difference in performance, but they do make a nice noise, and I just like to mess about with that kinda thing.

Thom,
I think the reason cars with cone filters get dirtier engines, is that once you have removed the old air filter and pipes, all the road spray goes straight into the engine bay.

Seen cone filters fitted to a few Cerbies inc. DannyIT's RR spec which has been tinkered with by Joolz. The car sounds great with the induction noise and there don't seem to be any problems with over heating etc.

Alan,

The only thing I could see on them was F035A4. No idea if that is a part no. but I think I remember Joolz saying something about them being custom made?? Probably easier to order through him anyway?

i used green air filters, and so does joolz i think. a universal fit air filter with the right neck size will do the job. if i remember right its 90mm. make sure the filter is rated at the right power, mine are 250bhp each side, its easier to get smaller ratings but obviously no good.

(don't quote me on the 90mm,i'm not 100%)
