having owned a griff for 3 years up to about 6 months ago with zero repair bills except service and a new battery i now am desperate for a TVR fix and a cerbie
is my next love but, every thing i read jumps out huge cost of ownership, could a owner advise on A,the pitfalls in terms of running costs B,would i be better going for a late 4.2 or early 4.5,C,what modifications are the best to have been carried out prior.
Thanks in advance for your help.

My advice would be to buy as late a model that your budget stretches to, and IMHO a 4.5 is the better one to go for. Allow approx 3k a year for servicing etc. Happy hunting..

I went for a 97 4.2 ( with a decent warranty) & over 30K miles on the clock, as the feeling i got was that vlow miles + lack of use = potential grief.
I've had the car since august & use it every day.
In fact, the car feels better for being used daily i'm sure.
No unexpected costs/ failures as yet ( though my Autoglym bill has shot through the roof since buying).
As for servicing, i haven't had one yet, but lots of threads on the benifits of folks like Penninsula, Jools etc, & the costs are cool.
I was worried about the running costs/ potential for huge bills due to catastrofic(?) failure, but have been very pleasantly suprised, the cerb has been as reliable as anything i've had in the past, & i don't regret buying it for a second.

Darren.

I took the plunge about 5 months ago now and got myself a 99 T 4.2, So far so good haven't had any problems just one service and some new rubber to pay for hopefully i won't see to many problems,
I read alot of post's on this site about the problems that people have had and the price of some of the repairs, nearly scared me off but after driving a few i just had to get one and i have no regrets so far,

Hey, I think i'm right in saying that running costs are a lot more when compared with the griff 500, up to twice the cost in some cases. The 4.5's are said to be more reliable but are apparently more expensive if they go wrong, i,e engine rebuild can cost up to 4k Tappets need sorting every 12k as well as the service.

My profile has been kept up to date with running costs for the last 2 years.

think in the last 5000 smiles (a year) I have spent about £7K on rubber, servicing, repairs (engine) etc....
So ignoring fuel, oil, insurance and warranty costs then that is £1.20 per mile so if I add fuel to that then GULP! But hey! I have no regrets.
£600 per month for mine as well then. Once you add ins and fuel then this is nearing a grand a month I guess.

I've had a '99 speed 6 for 7 months. In this time it has cost me around £2K. This did include a major service with valve clearances, new pads, new front springs/dampers, waxoyl and minor bits and bobs. All being well (touch wood) this should be it for the year.

I don't think that's too bad considering the performance/exclusivity you get and the relatively low purchase price.

If it was, would you mind mailing me offline and telling me all about it?

Cheers!
