Does anyone have a sticky numberplate on the front of their Cerb? You know - the ones which actually stick onto the paintwork?

I've been wondering about doing this for a while now - I ran my old Griff without a plate for a while in the summer and I reckoned it looked much better. But obviously that's not going to last very long before plod spot it. And most people I speak to about the sticky plates reckon they don't look too good .

Pictures anyone??

Can't help you with your Cerbera, I'm afraid, but I've got a sticky numberplate on my Griff and I've not had any problems with our blue-uniformed friends. It was like that when I bought it in July, and it's always had it. History does not relate whether the previous owner had a problem with the police, but I assume not otherwise it would've been replaced!

Edited to add: There's a pic of the Griff in my profile if it's any use to you....

Is the badge not in the way on a Cerb for this type of plate?

Could be - but that's really why I wondered if anyone had done it. Of course, I could move the badge ..

I had a sticky plate on my Cerb for around 9 months. The old one got shattered by half a brick falling from a skip lorry in front of me and it was the only way to get legal quickly where I was at the time. It just got left on for longer than intended. I took the TVR badge off so as to get the best alignment that would keep plod happy. I had no problems with plod, but when I took the plate off to go back to standard type, it took a chunk of paint about 2" x 3/4" off with it. I was most dischuffed!!!!! Be warned

Does plod make an exception with older/classic cars wearing a sticky number plate at the front?

If so how old has a car to be to be allowed to use them?

Darren, where did you get yours from? Do they sell 'em in Halfords, or do you need to go to a special sticky numberplate shop? I think I might at least see if it'll fit - I assume they aren't that expensive.

Got them from a Halfords - ask for stick on white backing .
Then buy the black letters as required.
Caravan/Trailer suppliers sometimes keep them.
Also try small car accessory shops as its getting more difficult to source these type of plates- with the new reg plate laws.

Sorry to harp on about this (feel free to ignore ) but does anyone know somewhere in Surrey where you could walk in & get a super-cool little numberplate for the front of a Cerbie?

Thought I might have a drive tomorrow, and I can't seem to find anywhere on the 'net which does online credit-card ordering.

Got my front thin plate from Fernhurst – they make them on site, not sure they can do it in a day mind. Give Bryan a buzz on 01428 656377

Thanks, Paul. You know how it is - gotta be able to walk out with the goods ..

I'll give 'em a try tomorrow if nothing else turns up.

I saw one on a cerb on the A303 coming back from Devon once; I thought it looked quite cool. The paint thing did worry me, though -- the stuff stays on poorly enough (ime) in the first place.

I'm happy with the performance and appearance of my 13 inch-er now. (despite it being smaller than the national average )
