I am having a bit of trouble with my speed six on these cold mornings and would be grateful for any advice.
I’m giving it a few minutes to warm up but the engine wants to stall unless I touch the gas to raise my tickover to around 1K revs. At the same time I am getting some hollow resonating from the engine. Then, once it becomes more stable and I drive off, I still have some trouble when I stop at the lights. The revs occasionally drop to around 300 and it tries to stall again, accompanied by some metallic clattering under the bonnet. After a few more minutes, it starts to behave normally.
I’m assuming this is all cold weather related – but am a bit worried it might be something that needs attention. Any advice appreciated. I searched on here for info on how to increase the tickover myself but couldn’t’ find any. Grateful if anyone can tell me how to do this.

Humm.....I've got a 4.5 which I need to idle between 1000-1500rpm for a minute or so before driving off in this weather. It doesn't stall once I'm going but the revs do drop to 600ish if left and yes it does sound like a bag of old nails for that first mile or so.

This sounds like the problem I had with my Cerbera S6.
Have you had the idle speed reset many times?
If so and the revs continue to drop off after a while then you may have the same problem as my car.....
I.E. Valve Seats have moved. This can be tested by plugging some sort of compression reader into the cylinder banks and testing the pressure loss (a dealer or good independent should have this equipment).
If this is the problem then the only resolution is a rebuild back at the factory
I'd try and bring up the idle speed and rebalance the throttle bodies first (requires laptop and software). It is possible to just turn a small screw on the top of the engine to raise idle speed but this is not advised and can cause problems.
There is a thread on here called "Raising Idle Speed on a Speed Six engine" (I think) which describes how to do this.
Its probably something simple so don't worry... but I'd get it down to an engineer to make sure (if not just for peace of mind).
