New discs - new pads?
Discussion
If I fit new front discs to my Cerb, should I fit new pads at the same time? Generally, people say that you should, but mechanic chums are saying that it is not really necessary...it may just take longer for the existing pads to bed in as they may have become contoured to the shape of the existing discs? Anyone have any thoughts?
Also, if I stick with standard discs and decide to change the pads, should I keep them as standard too, or is it worth uprating?
Cheers.

Just in case Joolz ids busy at the moment....
I had my disks done very recently, and the word from Joolz was that it was OK to retain the pads as long as there was plenty of wear left in them. He mentioned sanding the pads down so that they bed into the new disks.
My pads were low anyway, so had to be replaced.
Good Luck

this is true. If you have plenty of pad left there';s no point changing, but make sure you flat the pads down on some emery on a flat board otherwise if they're ridged this will get transferred onto the new disc face and you'll be back where you started with localised overheating . inconsistent pad material deposited on the disc face / juddering through the steering etc etc ...

But new car sounds like it might be interesting ?
indeed - the cav met with a fiery end in handsworth at the hands of some boxing day thieving scuzballs
got a beemer 316 to replace it courtesy of a customer's father-in-law. it's a peach too. very pleased
Tossers. Hopefully they were inside the car when your carefully planted fireball producing petrol bomb detonated.
Good to hear that the beemer is good - I think you should update your profile, and get a picture of it and the unfinished M on there. The Maestro really should be heard and not seen.

I've read some stuff on one of the brake manufacturers sites [can't remember which one - maybe ferodo or mintex?] that said it is recommended to bed new pads on old disks, and new disks on old pads i.e. don't change them both together.
In saying that, I've always changed pads and disks together...the damns things seem to wear/warp at roughtly the same time.
