Very happy to have the car back - 9 1/2 weeks is a long time, also a film I'm told.
Valves stretched on 3 of the cylinders. Most of the time has been wasted by WH refusing to cover the work and it still isn't resolved (but the garage have said that's their problem). Cost me nothing which I was very surprised at.
Actually took me a little while to adjust to driving the Cerb again. I've been on my bike for most of the last couple of months so little car driving anyway and then to get in to something a little challenging like the Cerb made me think for a while. Didn't stop me enjoying every minute mind

My 1999/V Rosso Pearl Speed Six is off for a top-end rebuild too. Mv should be ensuring head is with factory upon opening for business in the new year. I've been told I should get it back towards the end of January. Is this realistic ?
Gary - What have you got (6 or 8) and what happened to it ? You say you expect the car back in 3 weeks but how long have you been without it and what dealership is looking after things for you ?
Phockit - Your car's very similar to mine. Have you owned it long term (I've only just recently bought mine)and was wondering if you have any comments on general long term reliability. As long as i know I can trust the engine following it's rebuild I'll be happy and I assume that a long-term solution has now been found, this has however shaken me ! I've also had different dealership feedback on running-in (top-end rebuild only). Mechanical sympathy are always the watchwords but what will be your approach to this ?
Any help greatly appreciated
Cheers, Meridian

Meridian - if you've got a spare couple of hours then read the car history in my profile. Should be what you are looking for.
As for running in, it's not so stringent as you'd think - it's not like you've got to worry about bedding the bores in, etc. Rule I was given was to keep the revs below 4.5k rpm and not give it a hard time.
To be honest this is like normal driving, you just have to resist the urge to give it loud when you get the opportunity Being a little mechanically sympathetic I have being building up the revs slowly, started by keeping it below 3k for the first few miles then getting towards 4k and more often now I've got the first 100 miles out of the way. Will probably not go beyond this until I get past the 500 mile mark.
Obvious thing but also make sure the engine is thoroughly warmed before winding it up any (covered in my profile).
Engine will need the valves checking at 1k miles then it should be back to normal operation. It is also running on mineral oil for the next 6k miles so that everything gets a chance to wear in properly.

The engine shop seemed to be turning them round in a couple of weeks, mine has been delayed due to the warranty company around. So end of Jan is definitely viable.
Thanks for that phockit. I'll have a look at the info under your profile as I'm sure it'll be most useful !
Point taken on warming-up etc. I consider myself to have as much mechanical sympathy as the next man and therefore my vehicle NEVER gets driven hard when cold and 4.5K rpm is not much of a hardship in day to day driving either as thankfully these cars are super quick and sound fantastic at engine speeds below this (as well as above of course !)
Interesting point on mineral oil. I guess this is something to be raised with my dealer but one assumes they'll recommnd it anyway won't they ?
Good luck with yours in the meantime

Gary - Sounds particularly nasty and so I guess I shouldn't grumble too much then ! I can see why you can't wait for the next three weeks to pass !! Good luck with it when you get it back.
Phockit - Thanks for the comment on factory turnaround time. That pretty much coincides with what I'd been told and makes me feel a lot better. End of Jan would be great
