I am looking into the possibility of getting an early Cerbera in the new year, but I'm not sure if it will fit in my garage !

Does anyone have the dimensions of a Cerbera so I can check ?

I have previously had an S3 and BMW 328 convertible in the garage and I know a Griff fits as well, but am I right in thinking the Cerbera is quite a bit longer ?

Cheers

It might look a mile long - but that's an optical illusion related to the fact that it's only 6 inches high...

I don't know how long either car is, but I had an E46 3 series saloon and the Cerbie is shorter than that. Both went in my garage but the Cerbie had more room at either end - and in fact now lives in there with a chest freezer in behind it as well.

How wide are they? I guess as the doors are longer than normal getting out in a single garage could be a problem.

I'm expecting to have to riggle out of the car once it's in the garage, but I can live with that.

So, it sounds like it should fit - just the news I was hoping for !

Now am I being silly looking at the earlier 4.2's ?

I will have about £17.5k to spend and would be comfortable spending £1k a year in maintainance. Is Cerbera ownership possible based upon this kind of budget ?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Very good tip for getting out in a single garage is to push the seat right back and then it becomes alot easier than the usual belly dancing/contortionist impressions I used to do!

Should be OK, width wise in a standard single garage.

You may struggle to run a Cerbera on your budjet. I have an early 4.2 and would have difficulties running the car on 1K a year.
I only use my car for fun i.e. weekends etc. So far the car has cost me in 2.5yrs

24K to buy
2K engine
1.5K wheels and tyres
1.5 - 2K servicing (now use a specialist)
1K Light conversion front + respray
.5K light conversion rear fitted
.450 sport pipes and cat modification

+ about another .5K on pedals alloy bits etc.

The question is can I afford it? NO but is it worth it YES!

The visa card can be paid monthly

Granted I did not have to carry out a lot of the above but the bug has well and trully got me.

Hope the above ramble has helped make up your mind.

Good luck whatever you choose.

I was hoping that if I bought an early one that most of the 'usual' problems would have been sorted by now. I would only ever go to a specialist for servicing as I believe you not only get more for your money, but you actually get a better service (from my experience).

I got bitten by the bug when I had my S3 and am prepared (hoping) for it to happen again. Extra optional costs like those you've listed would be on top of the £1k a year.

Can I ask what the £2k engine cost was?

Thanks

The car was running fine but using quite a bit oil.

The cost was for valve seals & piston rings. The main cost is the stripping out of the engine etc not the parts themselfs.

I had the work done at a specialist as "TVR" main dealers told me the engine would have to go back to the factory at a cost of 4-6K.

I am very pleased with the work done and the car in over 2000miles has not used a drop.

Please do not let me put you off every one sould own a Cerbera at some stage in there life, just ensure that you go in with your eyes open.

Sorry Paul, but you can't try playing the "it-won't-fit-in-my-garage" card.

You could try the "if-I-back-it-in-it-might-blow-the-wall-down" one, though! Just need to ensure you get one with a "proper" 'zorst!

Wear away any offending parts - you'll find the evidence at the top of the ramp!

Mighty rugged, Griff exhausts!!!

Keep the R6, sell the Beemer. The Cerbera is very similar size to the 3 series. If the 3-series fits in the garage no problems, the Cerb will be fine though you may have to resort to pushing the seat back and falling out. Usual tips about carpetting the walls etc.
