Hi,

Sorry for posting this thread for about the 50th time on ph's but I have looked in the earlier threads and can't find the answer to my question.

So...... I am working on convincing my dad (stag) that a 4.2 cerbera sounds the business with a sports exhaust.
My dad has heard a 4.5 with a sports exhaust and likes it.
He said he will eventually get a sports exhaust but not at the moment as the box he has got is practically immaculate. All there is, is a few srapes.Trust me I have inspected it to try and find something wrong with it! I might have to drill a hole through it if he doesn't get a sports exhaust soon!!

The question he asks himself though how often do you get pulled over for the boring old farts complaining that it is too loud? Or has no - one any problems??

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

David

Never been pulled over, and never had any whinging old f@rts complaining about the noise, not even my neighbours....and the car is very loud!!!

One nice little game, is how many car alarms can you set off in one street (not you own road of course) just by driving down it?!?

sports exhaust may not be your answer anyway .. have you thought about the decat / std back box route. It sounds even better than sports pipes IMO!! .. benefits are that you get to keep your cats in good condition, but there's a benefit on the noise front too:
the tvr silencer is an absorption type ie it runs a perforated straight through pipe surrounded by sound deadening material in the silencer, these are very good at silencing at low revs / part throttle, but very bad at silencing at high revs / large throttle .. this means that if you want to you can drive gently and have a car that's close to std sound levels ie for a long cruise or in a built up area at night, but out on the open road you can let rip with the throttle and the silencer becomes much noisier .. sounds like both you and your dad would get what you want from this. Plus it works out only one third the price of getting sports rear pipes fitted .. bargain!!

Agree with Joolz in that a Cerb does sound good with the cats out... HOWEVER, the only problem with this route, is that if your MOT garage isn't a friendly one & does EVERYTHING by the book - no cats = no MOT, so you have to put them back in, get the MOT & take them out again. Ok, I would think 50% of garages (quite possibly more) can be persuaded to turn a blind eye, but strictkly speaking a Cerb with no cats is illegal...

Sports exhaust however, sounds FANTASTIC (IMO), and is still "legal" because you still have your cats... And no, not been pulled over once, or moaned at (if anything I think I get more comments about how good it sounds)...

Hi,

Thanks alot for the replies.

Yeah I have tried persuading my dad to do that (take outn the cats) but he doesn't want the hassel of taking them out and putting them back in when it comes to MOT time.

I think i'l just work on the sports exhaust.

Thanks

David

the trouble with leaving your cats in is that they don't last well in cerbies .. a combination of any small engine running fault and vibrations (which the cerbie has in abundance) kills the cats quickly .. many owners are running around with cats in that don't work anyway - my MOT station has terrible trouble getting cerbies to pass (!) .. and as cats are 300 pounds each (ouch) it makes much more sense to take them out whilst they're still working (if they are) and put them back in for MOT time. (usual disclaimer about potential illegality of course .. )
