this maybe a stupid question but....

why are TVR concentrating on developing the speed six engine rather than the AJP v8?

given the reliability issues of the earlier versions of sp6 of which i gather they have got to the bottom of, it seems to me that the use of and development
of ajp v8 in future cars is being forgotten

is this just a simple case of ease of manufacturing, dimensions etc? of is it that the v8 has gone out of favour

its not as if i have anything against the speed six, indeed it was being a passenger in one that sealed my obsession in owning a cerbera (finger crossed for owning one soon!, prob early p/r reg v8)).

i'd be interested in knowing what people think

I believe the AJP8 is much more expensive to make, also there is a very British thing about a straight six.

I think there is also a problem with emmisions. The sp6 is a cleaner engine.

I dont really know it may have something to do with cost. Or the V8 may not be suitable for the likes of the Tamora??

Its a shame IMHO the V8's are the dogs it will be sad to see them go.

I currently drive an early 4.2 Cerbera and if I could afford to replace it, It would not be with an inline 6.

Have to find V8 fun elsewhere

Long live the V8

agree with all the above comments, its a real shame IMO, perhaps its a throwback to the Brits love of old straight sixs (used to own a TR6 - although it was a bit of a rust bucket it did sound lurvly).

Is it true that Speedsix is cleaner (emissions-wise) ?

Just think about the casting & machining costs - 6 cylinder has to be cheaper.... but it's a great shame - that scream at max rpm can't be bettered

It will be a very sad day when the only engine option is the six. In my opinion, they dont sound nice and from what i have heard, they are just not right!
I have had V8 TVRs for nearly 5 years now, both Rover & AJP, the only time the RAC has had to come to my rescue was when for a weekend, my local dealer kindly leant me a Cerbera to try, guess which model it was?
Yes, you got it, a speed six!
As an engine, even if it worked, it just hasnt got the personality of the V8, you just have to hear it & feel it from behind the wheel. Memo to all at our favorite Blackpool factory, dont be so stupid ! Rant over!

Unfortunately I think its inevitable that one day its only the Six that will be offered.

I could have forseen a future for the AJP8 if they had put say a 5 litre tuned version in the Tuscan R but I think them putting the Six in is a definate statement of future direction.

As a future incarnation though I can see the AJP8 being taken to 5 litres in the Cerb, but detuning it a bit to move the Cerb into the full GT territory with a lazy monster lump rather than a screaming banshee.

If you ask they might do it.
