Speed 6 owners
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I'm about to place an order for a new Speed 6 Cerbera and was just wondering if there are any Speed 6 owners here that might have any tips for me.
Here's the spec:
Air con
Hydratrak
GD headlights
+ some cosmetic stuff
I intend to use the car for "grand touring", weekend blasts, a few TVR sponsered track days and the weekly shopping run. In all about 10K miles a year.
Looking to hearing your comments,
Michael McDowell

I was only kidding.
Mine is back to the dealer next week with what looks like an oil leak from the gearbox (hopefully the warranty will cover it).
In terms of the engine, it has been running very smoothly in the time i've had it (oil pressure nice & high, power amazing, virtualy no oil usage). The engine had work done at the factory around 17k by previous owner. So almost 10K miles on and so far so good.
I would, however, seriously consider a used car unless you are happy to live with the steep deprecation curve in the first couple of years ownership.

Hi Michael,
Well done on you're purchase, I'm sure you're going to enjoy it !
I've owned my Speed Six for 2 years now and have kept my cars profile up to date.... this should give you an idea about what you can expect.
I know it looks bad but I've still got the car....which basically tells you that owning a Cerbera is worth it !
I've had to suffer an engine rebuild duing my ownership which very nearly put me off TVR's for good. Got another possible issue with the engine at the moment, will keep everyone posted with results of investigation by APM Automotive next Friday !!
The S6 is the way forward though I think. Although a lot of people will be gutted about it, I expect the AJP8 will be gone soon... which could leave the V8 engine owners with service/sales difficulties in the long run etc.
TVR seem to have put there hands in the future success of the S6 engine....lets hope they get it sorted !

Having had 2
..not sure I'd bother with hydratrak or gas discharge
but would ring Mr Short (just to piss him off) or Joolz and ask for suspension mods.
If you want to do tracks, and are keeping standard 16" then possibly ask for the lower profile tyres from the 4.2, otherwise go for the spiders

Air con is essential, hydratrack is not noticably different from the normal LSD, but 18" spider wheels and a nice colour are essential!!
Bennno
Are you going for full leather? I went for half-hide + some extra leather around the tunnel and dash. I do regret not paying a bit more and going for the full leather.
Agree with bennno about the hydratrack - i wouldn't bother.
I believe air con to be a waste of money in the UK, but supposedly it's essential for resale.
I got a heated front screen - don't bother - the heater is powerful enough to give good demisting.
I strongly recommend a DAB tuner. Brilliant.

Nice one!
You'll love it, I've had mine 14 months and no engine problems (touch wood). Use mine daily (until snow arrives) and doesn't miss a beat, or burn oil.
Extras I took-
1)Air con - excellent, wife couldn't beleive she would ever be cold in a TVR
2)18" spiders - gorgeous
3)Hydratrak - can't comment, only apparently comes into use at higher speed cornering, it ain'r your normal traction control
4)Don't get gold badges, they flake - get Leven's lacquered badges
5)My radio is great, although other people complain and pay to get DAB
6)Get colour coded steering wheel
Beware of colour schemes, I've got a Rosso Red (see profile) and went for Magnolia inside. It looks the dogs baws, but thankfully the garage suggesed red leather dash top to avoid sun glare. It has been excellent advice.

I've had my S6 for 15 months now, with no probs other than some minor engine work that only took a day to fix - used as everyday transport as well.
A lot of people seem to put the S6 down (and I dare say I would too if I'd had the same problems), but I have to say that mine (touch wood) has been superb in the time I've had it. My choice was also partly dictated by the state of some of the roads I have to drive on!
I have kept the 16" wheels on for this reason but agree the spiders look the business. I'd be interested if someone out there has experience of spiders on a S6 and the extent to which it compromises the ride.

As below, I went for the 18" option spiders and came directly from the factory with these, as opposed to some people fitting them retrospectively. From other threads doinfg it this way would require shaving some bodywork and fitting spacers.
I have not experienced any problems with handling or braking (i don't do trackdays, so can't comment on excessive braking) and no tramlining problems. Now the roads in Scotland are THE worst, and still the car is happy and stable even on 35mm profiles.
