Watched that old Clarkson thing on Sky last night, the one where the Cerby blows away all opposition. Said to my missus, watch this bit, she said oh yeah, yawn, I bet the TVR wins, BLOODY HELL, didn't know they were that fast, can we swap your Griff for one?!!

Me: ..AND it's got four seats, so we can fit the kids in !

Anyway, I understand that the Cerby in the program may have been 'tweaked' - but what was done and how does it differ from a normal 4.2 or 4.5???

PS If anyone is interested in P/exing for a fabulous Griff500, let me know!

I am sure someone will be along who knows more than me shortly, but...

I have heard it was actually a 4.7, and no doubt the factory had made sure that the engine was running at its best......

Didn't they do two 4.7's or something...? Rumour was that it was tweaked a bit.. but who knows.

I shouldn't worry too much about the details of that particular car. Suffice to say the claimed performance of the Cerbera has been proved time and time again.

SO GO AND BUY ONE

If they did use a 4.7 it is a bit dodgy as the car Clarkson used had a 4.2 badge on it.

The 4.2 is largely unmarked......Only the 4.5 has a different badge....or is that what you mean?

It is a little bit dodgy in a way - but every marketing department is the same. You glam up the truth....420bhp anyone?

Thing is, Cerberas are fast. They are very fast road cars, and make most cars look quite slow. While Griff 500's are fast, they are not as fast as Cerberas, so if that was the reason you were looking to buy one, you will not be disappointed.

I bought one, and I am loving every mile

Apparently R200 HOT www.pistonheads.com/ads/displayAd.asp?advertId=5111 was one of them, maybe the lucky new owner or unfortunate old owner would shed some light on the subject? and what a bargain!!

Sorry to stuff the rumours, but it was just a standard 4.5 with no cats.

The car in the video was a standard 4.2. They did 3 runs with the Porsche winning the first, a near heat on the second and the TVR romping home with the third. The poor bloke driving the Aston was just a delivery driver !! (I was there !)

Hi rcs, Car was definitely a 4.5. It may have had the 4.2 wheels, and been without a 4.5 badge on the back, featured the shorter induction tracts of the 4.2 and in just about every respect was a 4.2 but the motor was a 4.5 minus the cats. I expect everybody was told it was a 4.2 as well, but this wasn't the case. Found this out when speaking with JR about the run after the event when I accused him of using a souped up car...! TVR make a production spec press car...? No chance...!

That car was dyno'd around that time by the press, it had 350 bhp, i believe it was a 4.5 though.

4.2?
4.5?
4.7?

Some interesting opinions - thanks chaps!

Hats off to the production company for not using the footage of the Porsche winning (or were the cameras not rolling ? )

I seems to remember the Porsche was a 993 Turbo - is the 996 Turbo any faster?

How many standin quarters would you want to do in your car anyway (you may own a clutch company but i doubt it) The everyday performance is what counts and its bloody good. Speak to Joolz at Joospeed about de-cat, stage 1 head and addressing air induction. youll get good bhp and much improved torque. 4.2's only though. And if youve got any water leaks he loves repairing those as well (sorry Joolz)
