Is this the same as the one in the tuscan challenge racer? No syncros? In which case, great for track use, totally unuseable for road, imho. Let us know!

synchro in 5th, think hill starts and town work will be interesting, straight cut so will whine, however I live in the country and am slightly deaf, so bothered!, I always seem to be in a rush when I do use the car... so it suits!....

Is this the same box that James Hall had fitted to his cerbie? Or was his a standard T5 but with the first 3 ratios closer together??

James, where did you get your box??

Cheers

Rob.

Surely the gear you want a syncro on most is first, not fifth!? Otherwise massive crunching every time you get into gear from a standstill.

James' was a development box. Not sure if the same guy who built it is also doing the TVR CR ones. Judging by the fact they're about 2 years late on ever getting one out the door, I guess it hasn't been that successful. Several people with development TVR CR boxes have had several blow up before going back to standard.

Personally, given the huge torque above 4.5k, is a CR box really that helpful on the road? On a fast circuit maybe (I loved the one in the topcats Tuscan race car at bedford).

come on danny you know you want one really!!
Not sure about the synchro on fifth, but from conversation earlier it's helical and the first four gears are straight cut with dog clutches (synchro on 1st would be an advantage), as 5th is on it's own on the rear of the casing it's probably left alone for quiet cruising. I reckon it's gonna be a scream (literally), with those reduced drive losses of a couple of percent all through the rev range it'll help acceleration from tickover to redline so that's enough justification to me .. yippee. can't wait to have a go

I thought it was great too, especially fourth-to-fifth, which came up frighteningly quickly on the straights and hardly seemed to drop the revs at all leaving you nicely in the power band (unlike my V8S, where there's quite a noticeable step up to fifth).

Having a really close ratio box also helps when you go from second to fifth by mistake (ahem!) .

Any chance of seeing this in action this weekend then!!? Are you going to be out and about in the village with it ? We can see if this gearbox helps you out accelerate me in my cerb?
