Speed six oil pressure relief valve spring
Discussion
Hi all.
Yesterday I finally had my first real drive.
What a car....
Suspension shocked me (Gaz Gold) : really soft. Maybe last owner decided to go that way....
But the whole setup it's good: predictable and planted.
Everything was just fine but, even if my oil pressure numbers are similar to a lot of people here, I want to try to change the valve relief spring.
Unfortunately I can't find a post where I can understand or see (I can't see a lot of pictures in old posts) to understand where it is located...
Could you help me?
Thanks

I don't have any SpeedSix experience to share, but I hope this is useful
On the AJP8 the spring can be changed fairly easily, especially if you remove the drivers side wheel, which gives much easier access
If the oil pressure has dropped suddenly, the chances are that this is because the spring has fractured
Not a problem if you have a spare (I always carry several), and also not a problem if you replace the spring without leaving any fractured parts behind
One time I was at a track day at the Ring, the oil pressure dropped during a lap, I brought the car back to the pits/TF carpark, and changed the spring in situ
Sadly I did not recognise that part of the fractured spring had not been retrieved, luckily the oil pressure returned and nothing bad happened as a result
Not until a year later, when on the M25 on the way to Germany the engine stopped, and refused to turn over when I tried to restart the engine
A small part of the fractured spring had been waiting until it had a chance to be sucked in to the oil pump and cause the engine to seize
Disssembling the pumps, when the oil pump is seized, is sub-optimal
The oil pump body cracked as I attempted to press it apart, oil pump castings do not exist anymore, I bought the last one from Powers about six years ago

Posted on the speed six area also.
Your answer is full of precious info even if you have the V8.
Good to know.
Thanks a lot

Andrea - congrats on your "first real drive". I'm glad your experience with the gearbox hasn't put you off the car. Hopefully you'll have a great years driving ahead. Enjoy!
I hope so!
Still discovering new things/problems....but really happy about the car.
I'll write about my impressions and new questions as soon as I can....
Thanks
