Hi all.
Yesterday I finally had my first real drive.
What a car....
Suspension shocked me (Gaz Gold) : really soft. Maybe last owner decided to go that way....
But the whole setup it's good: predictable and planted.

Everything was just fine but, even if my oil pressure numbers are similar to a lot of people here, I want to try to change the valve relief spring.

Unfortunately I can't find a post where I can understand or see (I can't see a lot of pictures in old posts) to understand where it is located...

Could you help me?

Thanks

I don't have any SpeedSix experience to share, but I hope this is useful

On the AJP8 the spring can be changed fairly easily, especially if you remove the drivers side wheel, which gives much easier access

If the oil pressure has dropped suddenly, the chances are that this is because the spring has fractured

Not a problem if you have a spare (I always carry several), and also not a problem if you replace the spring without leaving any fractured parts behind

One time I was at a track day at the Ring, the oil pressure dropped during a lap, I brought the car back to the pits/TF carpark, and changed the spring in situ

Sadly I did not recognise that part of the fractured spring had not been retrieved, luckily the oil pressure returned and nothing bad happened as a result

Not until a year later, when on the M25 on the way to Germany the engine stopped, and refused to turn over when I tried to restart the engine

A small part of the fractured spring had been waiting until it had a chance to be sucked in to the oil pump and cause the engine to seize

Disssembling the pumps, when the oil pump is seized, is sub-optimal

The oil pump body cracked as I attempted to press it apart, oil pump castings do not exist anymore, I bought the last one from Powers about six years ago

Thanks a lot!
Posted on the speed six area also.
Your answer is full of precious info even if you have the V8.
Good to know.
Thanks a lot

It's at the front of the engine, accessed from underneath. Can't currently remember whether it's left or right hand side but I'd expect it to be on the passenger side as that's where the HP oil pump is. It requires a large nut to be removed to get at it.

I quite like soft. I have mine set slightly higher and soft to cope with the UK's poor roads, plus I use mine like a GT car. Never had an issue hustling it around a track, but I prefer it that way to a harsh, track focused car, because thats mostly how I use it, journeys.

Back on the subject....
Is this the right location of the spring on the speed six?

I answer to myself: yes, that is the oil pressure relief valve spring location on the speed six engine.
Hope could be useful to someone....
