MOT failure today (Cerbera)
Discussion
You have my sympathies. Mine failed a couple of years ago on the chassis, I left it with the garage on the understanding that they would start work on it (body off) after 6 months. After 18 months of nothing happening, I collected the car and we're doing it ourselves in the workshop. Although it seems a bit daunting, its a well trodden path and there is lots of information on here about how to go about it.

Don't be downhearted - depending on what it needs there may be a simpler solution (although not as good as a full body off job) that may be worth investigating. If you can get an idea of the details, post it on here and hopefully someone will have a solution.
Fingers crossed its just outriggers!

A copy of the MOT report? If you can get an idea of the details, post it on here and hopefully someone will have a solution.

That would be a good start.
The big question is whether it's outriggers or not. It's a very common problem and fixed relatively easily. Main chassis however is much more difficult and likely a body off job (but not 100% depending on what it is).
And don't worry yet - we've all had that phone call!!!
Fingers crossed - see what you can find out and folks on here will help with options.

If you own a cerbera long enough you *will* need expensive items .. clutches, chassis work , potentially engine .. it's just how it is.
What I would say though is chassis don't go straight to MOT failure point, they corrode over time. Ask whoever does your servicing why they haven't kept you informed of the state of your chassis, your post suggests it's come as something of a shock! Unless you have a sudden catastrophic failure of an item nothing should catch you unawares if your garage has been doing its job properly.

I'd question that from mine and suggest that a body off is the only way to do it properly. The big question is whether it's outriggers or not. It's a very common problem and fixed relatively easily. Also to budget for replacing other hard to reach items whilst it's all apart, makes sense in the long run.

Mine was a surprise as it rotted top down on the corners, right where I couldn't see it. The bottom half was spotless, painted...What I would say though is chassis don't go straight to MOT failure point, they corrode over time. I'd agree the only proper way to sort it is a full body off job, but unless you're very good with the spanners, it isn't really a home job. If you have to pay someone, it soon adds up to a lot of cash! Also to budget for replacing other hard to reach items whilst it's all apart, makes sense in the long run.
If it is only outriggers, a solution to replace those without a body off job may be the difference in keeping the car or selling it as an MOT failure.
I'm trying to help - the poor chap has had "that" phone call!!

My (initial) post was the stark reality of it, having to stump up the cash PDQ or sell. What I would say though is chassis don't go straight to MOT failure point, they corrode over time. If it comes to the full body-off, we're all with you in spirit, and many of us have been through it. It may seem daunting now but once you get into it it's a lot of fun. Start a body-off thread, keep asking for help and help will come - I couldn't have got through it without this forum.
In the end it's hugely rewarding getting to know your car thoroughly.
