stealth plates
Discussion
According to Thrust, who a bit of a know-all, but is generally a reliable source.
The Stealth no. plates are great if your taking photos of your car. Saves you having to photoshop the image before posting it in "my cars". On the digital cameras in the newer blue money boxes they have no effect other than relieving you of £50 for the honour of wearing dodgey plates.

Oh poor old Thrust, he isn't allowed to log on to PH during working hours anymore. I mourn his loss.

If anyone saw Top Gear the other week when it was shown that a Tuscan R could go through the camera at 174 mph and not set it off ! I was talking to someone who reckoned it had gone through at 130 mph and had not set the camera off.Apparently it was something to do with the shape and material the tuscan is made out of not the speed it was travelling. A steath Tuscan ! Don't know how true but a nice thought.

I'm afraid it's nothing to do with the shape or the material, but down to the simple mechanics of that particular GATSO. I may be wrong here but an insider suggests that they can be configured for certain speed ranges....
This would therefore suggest that the Tuscan actually drove faster (>135mph) than the camera settings could cater for. If TVR have indeed discovered stealth paint/shapes then I'm sure NASA, Northrop and the other US agencies involved in such research would be kicking themselves aroud about now after spending billions of dollars on research.

Like I said tongue in cheek! Nice thought

If you're looking for a number plate covering device then you could look here.

I think the opinion is that they definetly work but you have to switch them off and on so if you were to switch it on and forget about it you could find yourself being pulled by plod. So be careful.

PS. I don't own one of these. So I don't have any evidence they work

"I know a friend..." who has got one of the reflecting plates (camera shy plates... I think there called) and it works really well. I have taken many photos of the number plate with a flash and it is compleatly reflective...
Obviously this only works with Gatsos and best at night.....
