1997 TVR Cerbera front crank pully issue

One of my mechanics has just done head gaskets on 1997 Cerbera but when installing the front crank pully and bolt it binds up the engine. What we have found is that the front crank pully extends past the end of the crankshaft and when crank bolt is tightened it pushes the pully too far in and binds on the front timing cover. Obviously something is wrong but we don't know what. any help would be greatly appreciated.
