AJP6 Rebuild Cost
Discussion
If you have kept the car fully serviced and within the dealer network then TVR used to look kindly on you and have rebuilt engines at their own cost. Someone suggested to be recently that this was no longer the case but I can't confirm that.

My SP6 doesn't use hardly any oil (maybe a litre every 3 months).
My rebuild last December was cost free (thanks to TVR) but I did get stitched with unecessary removal and shippage of engine costs which amounted to about £1500.
(due to no communication between dealer and TVR)
....and of course I lost my car for 10 weeks and had to hire a replacement which also cost me.

My car was 6 months outside of the two year TVR warranty for the engine. Warrenty Holdings didn't want to know either. I could feel a large bill coming on!
However, I spoke to several other people who had exactly the same problem and argued that this was an inherent flaw in the design of the engine and as such they should fix it for free.
TVR also looked kindly on the fact that I bought the car from a main dealer and had a full TVRSH.
It took a LOT of discussion but in the end the nice man at the TVR factory agreed to do the work FOC.
Shame I got stitched up by the dealer/TVR miscommunication that ensued.

Waiting for mine to come back from rebuild sp6, 14K miles and 6 months out of warranty but bought thru dealer with a FTVRSH.
I think the agreed solution(yet to be confirmed!!) is that i pay for consumables (gaskets etc.) and the factory pay for everything else. According to dealer this is around 2K factory cost for rebuild and between 6-800 pound for me to pay for consumables. As i said don't quote me on this because i am yet to A) get the car back B)see the bill!!!
I hope it is back in time for the VW meet (missed it last time) was told engine would be back at dealer today and then he has to fit it which he said would hopefully be before the w/end.
WE SHALL SEE

Should find out myself this week - dealer has just diagnosed stretched valves as the cause for the rough running the engine had been demonstrating since the last service.
Car is nearing 3 years old, FTVRSH, 17k miles and under a WH warranty - expecting a battle between me, dealer, TVR and WH
Phockit ..
Bugger ! Thats bad luck mate. Just been reading through your (extensive) car profile and you seem to have had prety much most of the problems I have had !
Let us know how you get on with your negotiations with TVR/Garage (wouldn't hold your breath about Warranty Holdings wanting to help out...tried this when mine went).
It'll be back with you soon
NB. What were the symptoms you found, was it just bad running?
Good luck

Thanks Bandit. The car appeared to be running fine just a little rough at certain rpm. From past experience on bikes I just put it down to bad adjustment of the injectors/buterflies during the service, it was just like out of balance carbs. Still flew when you booted it.
Garage agreed with my prognosis to start with but, after a couple of days hunting around, couldn't find anything wrong. As the valves hadn't been done at the last service they checked there next and hey presto, valves that don't fit properly even with no shims on three of the cylinders.
It was really smooth when it went in for the service but rough the moment I picked it up - was wondering if the way the engines run up during servicing can exacerbate the valve stretching problem....
As it had 17k on the clock I had thought I was well past this problem, should have kept my mouth shut
