Simple ignorance. The Viper looks *nothing* like any TVR except maybe for the panel gaps in front of the doors.

But, I suppose, if anything it would be a bit of an insult, the Viper is not only standard American "brute-force and ignorance" but it is pretty expensive and even less refined than a TVR. And I say that as an American. The Dodge/Chrysler Viper can't touch a Blackpool bruiser on its best day - not for sound or performance (they're much heavier than your average TVR and not much more powerful).

But that's just my opinion... ;->

Didn't a Cerbie leave a Viper for dead (and everything else for that matter) in a Clarkson video a few years back...

Well, it was on www.roop.ik.com but that site is now dead ??????? (anyone know why ?)

I've got it at home, so will try & get it uploaded tonioght.... And yes the Cerb does leave everything standing (V8 Aston Vantage, 993 Turbo, Caterham JPE, V8 Esprit & Viper RT10)...

But if it was the red one it's the one with the 'special' engine isn't it?

There were all sorts of roumers about that car ! The most possible one I heard, is it was a standard looking 4.2, with the development 4.5 engine & racing tuscan inlets.... So I would think a Red Rose is just as quick...

funnily enough it's generally accepted (rumour - incl factory) that the other way around is the best way to go .. ie 4.5 engine on 4.2 inlets ... glad the factory take note of what i tell them via yahoo groups and pistonheads

I've got his latest Top 100 Cars video and there's a clip from the older show in it showing a Cerbie absolutely SPANKING the best that Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Porsche have to offer when it comes to straight-line acceleration. I think you'd have to show up in an XJ220, EB110 or F1 to give the Cerbie a fright.

Just goes to show that that it is hard to beat a good power:weight ratio... ;->

It's the KCW or TVR100 plated ones you want...

No doubt el Cerbereeno will kick the butt of Monsieur le Vipre but don't be overly confident...

I remember doing one of the SuperCar Challenge jobs and on that day, the Viper was quicker than the Diablo present and didn't handle like the truck some would suspect it must surely be.

And at the end of the day, it pulls like a loco too.

I have a deep affinity for the big block V8 Texas-style approach to engineering; whilst being far from the summit of high tech, this 'enthusiastic' stateside obsession with 'cubes' is quite endearing and after all, if you've ever seen a Callaway 'Vette do it's thang at speeds on the far side of 200, you could possibly adjust you're preconceptions a tad...

But I'd still take the Cerby!

No no, not at all; your original message made me quite laugh, but I didn't intend to mock you at all. I hope you don't feel offended!

Quite! The eternal Yankee conundrum; how to mate vast urge with equine dexterity.

Still, I was talking ito a Bruntingthorpe style straight liner in which said Callaway would lay waste most comers we usually ponder in PH land.

Cheers.
