Is it possible to glaze the bores after the 'running-in' period? In other words is driving at constant speed/load bad for your engine even after the car has been run in?

I remember the service dept saying they see glazed bores on engines old as well as new, so I guess so. I suppose a compression check would show it up? Or excess oil consumption.

i have seen a number of posts about glazed bores but how do you prevent getting them in the first plade? use higer rpm or what.

Don't labour the engine in too high a gear. Don't use too high a quality of oil while running in & don't be too cautious while running in....
When glazing occurs, oil oxidizes in the tiny grooves or channels on the cylinder walls, causing the grooves to become plugged with varnish. If the grooves get plugged, they can't do their job of maintaining a consistent oil film on the cylinder walls. The result is usually high oil consumption and some loss of compression.
