I mean apart from the official network; as a specialist I guess Joolz has already done it; are they easy to work on?

there's a few people rebuilding these now, I've got one and I think Raven did one, team proactive too I believe. not cheap but still about half factory prices.parts are no problem, uprated cams from piper, head gaskets made to order, I could tell more but then I'd have to kill you ...

don't know is the honest answer. the engine is in build by a race builder near birmingham, he works closely with piper cams and they've come up with something together. it's also getting abit of other work to make it produce more power and hopefully live longer. we won't know exactly what it does power wise until the car goes on the dyno.

Please keep us up to date with progress if you hear any. Do you know when it is due to be ocmplete? Is it going in a Cerbera?

I know that Raven were getting components manufactured for their engine rebuild work. This was partly because they were having dificulty sourcing parts from TVR (would you believe it, we've run out of those too!) and partly because the original components were made out of a rather interesting alloy of chocolate and cheese.

Oddly enough, as Joolz mentioned, they were able to get most parts manufactured specially for less than the cost of the parts supplied by TVR.

Probably worth giving Raven a call if you want anything done on your engine. I suspect that they'll start to get rather busy when the word gets out....

I sure I read somwhere that the AJP8 was made out of high quality components. Hence the expense in replacing the bits. Is this why TVR developed the speed6 to keep costs down being cheaper to make?

I've heard good reports about the Cerbera with engine rebuild by Raven, it has covered 2000 miles since and is uprated !!

Don't think that you will find that the AJP6 is any cheaper to make than the AJP8. Possibly more expensive even. I thought that the initial reason for doing the 6 was due to future emmission regulations. The design allowed the cats to be closer to the engine or to warm up more quickly or somehting along those lines keeping the emmissions lower/faster.

Could very easily be wrong though!

I'm sure it was emisions - the AJP was a 2 value design and the speed 6 is a 4 value.

It is fairly well proven that the emisions are cleaner from a 4 value design.

I suspect also that AL Melling might have been on a commision / unit build...maybe.

Saw a 4.2 on engine stand at Peninsula last week
Looks straight forward and yes it is being rebuilt to customer spec - uprated for harder use
design looks basic enough its just a case of being brave enough to get involved
