I expect some of this has been covered...
I picked up an early 4.2 on Friday, the car is excellent but there are a few areas I'd like clarify.

Bonnet catches, I've adjusted them so the little locator pins now locate but there is still a bit of movement. Is there a fix for this?

Windows..the car has the door surround upgrades but there is still a lot of wind noise at speed. I've had the door apart but cannot see how to make the adjust the window so it is slightly closer to the car (I can see the up and down adjuster which makes no difference). One option would be to somehow make the rubber seals more rounded I did think of using an iron to do this..bad, good?

Revs, I know the ajp8 is much more revvy than the Griff, I've only taken it up to about 6,000 rpm so far, how far should it go safely?

How hot sjould it run, I'm seeing between 90 and 100 at the moment?

Oil Pressure, again it never seems to go below about 50-60 and sometimes get s bit higher.

Resonance, there seem to be a few odd vibrations, nothing overly worrying mainly when I come off the gas at speed, normal?

Speakers, it has the origional pioneer speaker set, the head unitl is getting an upgrade but I suspect the speakers will be a bit pants, is there an upgrade path that does not involve lots of cutting and gives a decent sound?

Thats it for now, the car is great, very different to the Griff (as I expected) and I think I like it more than I thought I would..

Cheers

D.

Stick bits of squashy rubber under bonnet.

You can't' adjust the windows 'closer'. Are you sure you have the latest door seals. They should be a 'double bubble' design i.e.like two seals back-to-back. Also, are you sure the window is going high enough? Sometimes of its just a wee bit low you get noise. I've often got to press the window-up button after the door closing mechanism has apparently put the window back to full height.

Until the red light comes on at the bottom of the rev counter.

Difficult answer as the temp gauges are notoriously inconsistent. I had a gauge replaced once, before it broke it always read 80-90, replacement read 90-100 with no other changes! You cannot take the temp gauge as a real indicator of engine temperature, or as a comparison with other cars. It only makes sense to use as a guide to your own car, whether it ir running hotter or colder than its 'normal'. May be a good idea to let it heat up in a garage and listen for the fans to come on - the first should be about 95 I think, and the second [if you have aircon] a little later, but under 100 I think. Try to mentally callibrate the gauge against this.

Mine shows 50-60 when cold/warm, but would drop to maybe 40-50 when really hot.

Yes. Possibly the exhausts rubbing on something. Theyre a tight fit. Can be fixed with a bit of perceverance.

Best sound comes out the back. Get a loud exhaust and ignore stereo.

David I just upgraded my sound system and there is no easy way out for the fronts.

You're right, the standard set up is absulute pants so has to go if you do like music.

I have fitted Kenwood dualmags all round. You are very limited in the fronts due to the 145mm mounting depth. the kenwoods KFC-PSR71P are 160mm. You need to remove to foam backing on the door and fit a 10mm spacer (this is slipped under the door trim material.
You also need to open the opening about 10mm as they are 7" units as opposed to 6".

The rears KFC-PSR401 go straight in the original hole.

The whole job took 4 hours but it is well worth it.

Downside.......They're not cheap. Fronts and rears £270.00

Hope that helps

By the way, the fronts are components so do have a separate tweeter which sits on the door above the mid.

The crossover that comes with them does actually squeeze in the door panel so totally out of sight.

The rears have a tweeter also but it is very cleverly mounted in front of the mid (not dual cone or 2 way but pre mounted components)
