Hello,

The alarm on my motor is playing up. The Alarm works fine - but the central locking doesn't activate when you press the button. Any ideas on a quick fix or will I need to get a pro on the case?

Do you mean you can still open the doogs when the alarm is on, or do you mean the little button in front of the gear stick doesn't work when your in the car ?

The alarm goes through all of the usual motions arming itself - but the buttons under the mirrors still work!

It appears the Alarm is fine - but the Central Locking is screwed.

What is that other button for?

It gets worse - the windows stopped auto-closing....and now the doors won't open....

Considering I only got it back from TMS this morning after sorting out a few niggles I am somewhat peeved as I was hoping to go to Santa Pod on Sunday. It sort of spoils it when your windows won't close and you are pulling levers to get in and out.

But it did come back this morning sounding more evil than ever so I am not too upset.

It sounds like the door and window control module playing up Tony.

This is one of the black boxes located in the boot, sitting on top of the fuel tank (behind a flap of boot lining): it should be labelled (!).

I can only suggest checking the connections to it (they are all plugs) and perhaps unplugging and plugging in again the power to the module to try and 'reset' it. When you do this make sure the doors are open so you can get in and out again!

Good luck!

I had a similar problem, removed the battery connections to do a small job and when I reconnected the battery the alarm sounded. I cancelled it with the button and then found I was totally locked out. Did all the overide stuff with manual overide but windows, door buttons/windows did not work. Found if I removed the fuse for the door release and then pushed it back in everything reset as it should do. Not sure if this will help but good luck.

Thanks for that. I managed to get into the car this morning (at great length) and checked the connections over - nothing visible.

I shall replace all the fuses after the football this afternoon - fingers crossed.

Thanks

As someone has already said, the door module could be playing up (unplug for 30 secs & plug back in to reset).

It could also be what a friend had happen on his car a month ago.... When TVR build the cars, the bodyshop will not let them use silicone spray to seal the connections, because it can ruin the paint work if the paint hasn't cured properly, so they just leave all the connectors bare. My friend had similar problem to the one your describing (& had it on/off for the best part of a year), until a different dealer (Dream Machines) came up with a new idea... Pulled the door lining off to check the connections inside the door, learn & behold, lots of blue connectors (very badly rusted). A quick bit of cutting & replacing connector blocks (and a covering of silicone), and hey preso, doors/windows working again !

The button in front of the gear stick (same button as door opener) is a "Central Locking button". Basically, when you are stationary if you hit the button, it disables the external door buttons. Apparantly the buttons are disabled over 5mph anyway, but I've never been brave enough to test it !

Thanks Olly and Jeremy,

I have done just that and the buttons are again working - so I can get in without all that other fuss at last.

So - the doors are now working - although they will not lock and the auto-close doesn't work. The passenger side window won't close all they way.

Will be calling TMS tomorrow.

It is a good colour for a British Car - I went out looking for a Jag XJR in BRG and came back with Cooper Green TVR.

Mine was born at Henley and later found it's way to TMS.

back to the thread origins..its possible the alarm has just got out of sync in some way - I've seen symptoms like that on a Chimaera. The way to reset the post-98 Meta alarms is to disconnect the battery for at least 2 mins. Job done. Try it before spending some money!
