In advance of a track day last week I thought I'd do the fluid levels and check the fans. Did the leave the car running on the drive bit, first fan came on at about 97-98 (Indicated) and then the temp dropped so I never got a chance to check the second fan.
I do want to check it out before it goes for a service as I'm a long way from the dealer and want to sort as much as poss in one go. Any suggestions.

I have a 4.5 Cerbera and have just had a few little gremlins sorted out. The big fan (near side) should come on first, usually on my car at about 102-5 degrees and the smaller one ( with the greater amount of blades)usually kicks in above that when sitting in traffic. It is perfectly normal for this to happen. Just ensure that they do kick in and do action at a constant temp on the guage every time. The guages themselves do tend to be a little out so as a rule of thumb as long as they come on at the same 'indicated' temp every time then no worries, just ensure that you check your coolant levels every week during the hotter weather periods.
Not sure about the aircon bit but the fans are certainly supposed to be staged. The big one coming on first.
Bear in mind that the gauge is not accurate, but as long as when the fans come in the temperature drops then you are ok.
If the gauge starts playing around ('flicking around') then chances are you have air in the cooling system.
