Has anyone got any advice about child seats for a Cerbera? Is such a thing available and if so, where from? Any help would be appreciated - even if the thought of crushed crisps and spilt juice brings a shudder!

TVR's one is very good, there's one for sale on PH at the moment I think. It does take a couple of hours labour to fit and not a job to do yourself either.

Jon, loads of stuff on here about child seats (have a search for child seats on the Cerbera forum).

I'm in a similar position as I take delivery of my 4.5 Saturday and will be fitting a kiddie seat in the back for my 18month old. The seats that seem to work in the back are Recaro Start, Kippan Futura and a couple from Britax (Ranger and Trio) I think. I'll let you know how I get on and which one I go for.

Cheers

TVR seat takes less than an hour first time. Then seconds each subsequent fit - much quicker than a standard seat in your saloon car.

Hi John, RolexBlue,
I'm new to PH's. Only just signed up today!! Owned a Cerbera for 3 months now and still can't stop grinning. Anyway, about the child seat. I have a Recaro Start seat in the back of mine. Fitted it myself and can reccommend it to others. Don't know how much it cost exactly as i think the dealer inflated the price when i bought the car from them. They mentioned £400 ish. I suggest buying the fitting kit from them and looking in Halfords etc for the seat (i saw the same one in there for £175 ish. Surely the fitting kit isn't £225 ish. I must admit i was nervous when cutting the fibreglass but looks ok when finished. It comes with an additional head restraint which works well as it helps my 18 month old daughter keep her head still. Hope this helps. PS RolexBlue, bet you cannot wait until Saturday!!!!

I can only reiterate.

Don't try to fit the TVR seat yourself. It involves drilling 3 holes in the transmission tunnel on the same side they run the fuel lines.

Thanks for the info Colin and welcome to PH, to be honest I was hoping to get a seat that uses the standard seat belt like my nippers current Britax seat does. The reason for buying a new one to fit the TVR is that the seat is just to narrow for a full on baby seat. The Recaro Start seems to be in the 160ish bracket – are you saying I need additional fixing points other then the standard seat belt to fix the baby seat in – I is getting very

No, the Recaro uses the standard seat belt. The additional fitting kit only consists of an aluminium supporting bar that is bolted through the transmission tunnel and the floor and a shaped leather covered metal plate. All this does is support the child seat to the correct angle so that the child seat does not damage the rear seat when fitted. Note: only fit the seat yourself if you are experienced enough to do so. It took me about two hours to fit the fitting kit (no instructions supplied) and it only takes seconds to put the seat in and out of the car. Also note: Once fitted the fitting kit is a permanent fixture to the car so be aware that it does get in the way if you are planning to use the rear seat for grown ups!!

Sounds like the fixing kit is the same supplied with the TVR seat.

We use a Britax which is readily available from Mothercare. It leaves more leg room that the Recaro.

From memory, they come in chequered blue or red.

Good luck.

Fantastic guys thanks a lot – I’ll be trying them all probably as I have a Halfords and Mothercare within a 10min drive. Are they going to get a surprise when I ask “Do you mind if I try it in my car outside”

Halfords sell a special ratchet thing that helps with getting the seat belt really tight - it costs £20.00. We have a Britax seat in our Cerbera as well .

We have the Britax Freeway, about £75.00. We have to remove the back headrest to fit it.

You also have to watch those pincer-like little fingers don't clasp the window as it rises when you shut the door!!

Guys (and Mums), for what its worth I have an even cheaper solution - my two year old sits very happily in the back on the normal seat but with the angle of dangle of the seat belt adjusted by means of a bracket emerging from the side of the hole above the transmission tunnel (ie where the rear centre speaker goes on early cars). The fit is further improved by one of those padded belt fitments that you can buy in Halfords for about £15. Its a lot less hassle than a baby seat, you can still fit an adult in there and you don't have to move the front seat forward so your wife/girlfriend's knees are up by her ears... hmm, come to think of it!
