Traffic Light Grand Prix

Never really raced anything off the lights, I only seem to find other exotica once on the move...
But the funniest "race" I've had off the lighs was in the wet, when a "Max'd" Nova with 4 baseball cap'd bass junkies tried to race me off the lights.... Let them leave the lights, I left in persuit, as I hooked 2nd (once along side them), the car went very very sideways ! Managed to keep the car in a perfectly straight line, and just nailed it.... The look on their faces we a picture !

I don't bother with other cars - they are no fun.... bikes, on the other hand!!!
(and, in deference to bike riders everywhere, they nearly always give you a grin and a wave)
Loved the Nova story. I once got taken on by a cloth cap in a very sensible mazda 626 who was clearly determined that he could beat my Ferrari to the lane joining a few hundred yards ahead. I was laughing so much I nearly forgot to stop at the next set of lights. When he finally caught up, I wound down the window to compliment him on his guts but he glared straight ahead, hunched over the wheel like Fangio and refused to talk to me.. by this time I was crying so much I didn't realise the lights had turned green!

While driving a tuscan red rose one evening (not even mine it belonged to a pal !!!) he asked if there were any night clubs around. This jogged my memory as the club in my town ,"Le Saphire 69" in Abbeville France, is a meeting place for Maxheads on saturday nights. I said to my pal "watch this" and so i pulled into the parking lot did about 7 or 8 donuts , and pissed off leaving them in tyre smoke...
I wont forget that anytime soon .......

Beej competley agree bikes are the better challenge!
I split a group of bikers who were joining a roundabout on a favourite bit of dual carriage way. Once onto the straight the bike in front of me nailed it, but to his credit moved over once he realised he was in danger of being sucked into the Tuscan's air filters! The Thunderace 1000 that was behind tried to keep up over the next mile or so but by the time we had hit 155mph he was a good 150 meters behind. When he caught up at the next roundabout to say he was a little shocked that a car had just left him for dead is an understatement! We had a brief chat at the lights, and I had a grin on my face the whole way home.

quote:Of course you would never be seen giving it large away from lights/roundabouts eh Willie? Or maybe that was a different yellow Cerbera, that just happened to switch places with you?
Hmm. Sorry to sound a boring fart/party pooper, but isn't this stuff best left for track sessions?
This all sounds a bit too 'max power' for me.

I have to confess I have big respect for Cerbs, a couple of months ago I 'chased' a Cerb up the M1 from jn 3 to jn 5 on my Honda Hornet 600cc thing(approx 450bhp/t, top speed only 140 though), well I was up his arse from 80mph to 120mph, then I was left for absolute dead, he must've hit 150 just like that, v.impressive indeed. He slowed and pulled over further along, I pulled alongside and gave the thumbs up, so did he. Anyone here???

TT - that will be the one that almost drives its self with more gizmos and better launch control than most F1 cars then?
Thats the one Cammy, it's also the one that has not missed a beat in 4 months rain or shine unlike my old Speed Six 4 out of 6 months back in sunny Blackpool, but I won't bore you with the detailsl
Cheers Lee.
lee77, just trying to wind you up a tad.
For what it is worth, over the last 3-4 years my father in law has had the following 911s - 3.6RS, 3.8RS, Anniversary, GT3 and 993 Turbo. I've only driven the 3.6RS, around Knockhill, but have been a passenger on track days in them all. He currently only has the Turbo, because of the power and the fact my wife loves it.
My wife herself had a C2, chipped and upgraded exhaust system which I drove regularly.
Point being, I have had some exposure to serious 911s, but don't you agree they are becoming much more mundane to drive. Sure the power is there, but the ease and even the design has put enthusiasts of the marque off. So much so, that in a December 2001 car mag, there was an article that the next new designs of 911s, circa 2004-5, will move 'back' the way in design and drive. Even mentioned a V8 engine!!
Also, currently have an S6, and no problems for 11 months, touch wood !!
