Can anyone say anything good?
Discussion
Monday morning and i'll be happily wandering over to look at a few cerbies to buy.
However, there will always be a little voice in the back of my sensible head shouting - YOU IDIOT, this will breakdown as soon as you drive it out of the showroom.
Now sure, the car is amazing to look at, increadibly fast and people love it for that, but can someone please post a few replies to say that they had a good car that hardly never needed attention.
We all know its the people with horror stories that like to shout out loud about their woes, but I'm hoping theres a few quiet ones in the background, thinking I'm saying nowt just incase.
Please, I need to hear you so I can at least turn the volume down on the sense side of my brain.
Please, I beg of you!!!!

Well, we have done 12,000 miles in our car now (in 11 months), and the 1st hickup it had was about a month ago when the slave cylinder went on the clutch (covered by warranty, so didn't cost anything to fix).
Tail end of last summer, the car was being used 6 days a week, but since March we have barely driven the car (redundancy etc etc means money is/was tight). But the car has been BRILLIANT !!! It has never missed a beat (regardless of if it was being used every day, or once a week), and always brings a HUGE smile to my face every time I drive it, especially poping & banging going through villages...
Go get one... YOU'LL LOVE IT !

most incredible car, massive speed and noise is unbelievable.
but you may need a second car as well, as from experience both of my cerbs (and those of many others)spent reasonable periods of time in dealers.
if it is to be your only car, you depend on it for work and dont have a dealer close by then it may not be for you.

Unbelievable amount of fun. The only problems I have had (since new) were (i) the door/window control breaking down (now replaced with new unit), overheating caused by sensor breaking down (also rectified). The only regret that I have had is that I have not driven it enough - due to job in the city and long hours, have only managed to clock up just under 7,000 miles in just under 2 years.
Incidentally, it's up for sale - see posting in Pistonheads

Biggest grin-per-mile you could ever hope for.
7,000 miles in seven months, and only minor niggles that my local dealer has fixed with minimal fuss and cost. I can't imagine another car I'd like to own in its place.
As per the usual advice: buy as late a model as you can afford, avoid the Speed Six engine (IMO), don't expect to run the car on a minimal budget - they will only be reliable if they are properly maintained.
Oh, and bennno: "spotted" in deepest, darkest Surbiton I believe ....

Hello,
I am new to TVR's and have no experience of things going wrong yet. I have had my Cerbera for only 10 days now and am loving every second of it. I traded in a mint condition new Audi TT for an R reg Cerb 4.2 becuase it was dull.
The same cannot be said for the Cerb
I have three English cars now and love all of them(MG TD 1952, 1958 Landy and the Cerb 97).
Get one - you know it makes sense!

If you can live with a car that your heart, not your head, chose then you'll be fine.
Cerbs are more of a hobby than a form of (v.rapid) transport. If you want there's always something than can/needs doing to it but rarely anything serious.
A read of my car profile will give you an idea of what to expect (if you can stay awake that long, I know it's way long). If you think you can live with it then just do it.

Great cars only sold mine because the roof didn't come off! Never had any major problems , but it was used very much as a second car.Yes I suppose they can be temperamental but what car with the same performance isn't.Repairs and servicing are not cheap but I think they are par for the course amongst supercars.Just be prepared for some big bills as a fact of life.

Bought mine (4.2) new in '97, did 13000 miles in 3 years and had no probs other than starter motors and door locks. Biggest mistake I made was selling it in 2000 for the pile of crap that was my Tuscan. Research everthing thoroughly (obviously) and pick-up the greatest supercar bargain out there! Can highly recommend Kerridges in Needham Market if you're going through a dealer, bought 4 Tivs from them.
I'm with SJC here, can thoroughly recommend Kerridges, I recently replaced my Griff 500 with a 4.5 Cerbera, both courtesy of Kerridges. Only had it a couple of months and I've had a couple of problems with it, new starter (first night I got it), new cat and new front discs BUT as already mentioned in this thread you buy these things with the heart not the head.
I also agree with the comment about the 4.5 being a race engine and needing treating as such. Mine had a sound thrashing this weekend at the Sporting Bears Dream Rides at Kimbolton (Hi Nigel) and yesterday/today the engine is so much smoother and sweeter.
These cars are just amazing, OK they can cost a lot to buy in the first place and then run but hey you can't take it with you and who wants to be the richest man in the graveyard anyway?
