Getting my car back!!!!
Discussion
After some 7 weeks almost I get my rebuilt Cerbera back tonight (all being well). Got the pain of running it in but at least I have virtually got a new engine! Apparently the oil pressure is fab ie over 70.
I am like a kid at christmas (but with a £7K hole in my wallet and a wife who wants to kill me!).
Yippeeee

Tell me that you are getting some of the £7K bill back on waranty please!?!?! If not then there must be something that you can do to beat up the factory for some of the money back..... thats rather a lot of money and lets be honest you shouldnt have to shell out that much for an engine rebuild!
Cheers,

Not getting a penny from the warranty company.
Going to chase them up to see why they reckon it is wear and tear. The limit is £1K anyway.
The bill from TVR was £5.6K but that included new clutch and flywheel. Not sure that TVR will give me a discount - the engine needed a full rebuild for various reasons (2 new heads, new bearings etc). Think I would be just asking as a favour to get money back rather than having a genuine reason. But if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get some dosh from TVR or the Wtty company then I would be very interested!!
The £7k bit includes a service.

I lied !!
Actual costs now through:-
£5341.82 - TVR Engineering
£1114.21 - garage
So £6.5K. That doesnt feel so bad!!!
If I can get £1K out of the warranty company then it will look 'cheap'.
I must say though I am very pleased with the 'garage' costs. He has done loads in that price. Engine in/out is up to 15 hrs labour plus all the fluids etc plus a service. I would have expected a main dealer to charge me nearer £2K for that element.

How's this one, car in to to have headlights coverted to blended units like Zertecs. Used lots of oil on the way to garage ask the nice chap to have a look for me. He did and reported I needed a new set of rings and valve stem seals. Said they could do all work themselfs apart from the valve seals which had to go back to TVR.
Costs
Headlights blended and rewired
Front end respray
Engine ringed
Valve stems sorted
Engine refitted
Air recharged
Tappets set up
Engine fluids replaced
Total £2995
The company in question has done a cracking job of the work excellent colour match and very tidy engine installation.
By the way car is a 96 4.2 Cerbera and since engine rebuild 900miles ago has used no oil at all.
Well pleased.

Oh and the garage is going to do the 1K service (oil, filter and clearances) for free (I just pay parts). So it just gets better. The bill from TVR was steep but just about everything in the engine is new. All in all for what I have had done it is a very good price.
And the car is amazing to drive (at 2.5K revs).

You seem to be SOOO pleased to be stiffed for the £7k though. TVR are Tossers for making all these cars that then need so many rebuilds and no one bar them can fix them - some thing like the treaty of Rome sez that is illegl in the first place - and who sez it won't happen AGAIN in a few more months time - think on that one - is the work that should never have been needed warrantied?
I find it hard to belive the crap you guys put up with , apart from the engine rebuilds you have people doing B&Q sealant bodges to fix things on a brand new £40k car i really dont get it , and here we have a guy who seems happy to pay 6-7 k to get his car fixed and the warrantee is not worth shit
Yep the Guy is clearly - nuts - I my still get a late 4.5 Cerbera at some point when get bored of Chimera 500
but if the same happened to be I certainly would not be taking it to TVR Engineering - there are 1 or 2 orther places that will do the work now (most likely better as the original engines must have come from here in the first place!)

Thanks guys for the support!!! Read the facts. The engine re build work probably came to about £5.5K all in or so. The rest (£1K) was service and other work. I have a virtually completely new engine (do you want a full list of what was done!?). Other garages could not have done this work as they dont have new heads or bearings (I think). If it didnt need new heads then it would have cost at leat 2k less. I now have a TVR years warranty for the work. Not sure I can be described as happy about it - I am just not like others around who have gone looking for sympathy and shoulders to cry on. The work could have cost a lot more if I had gone to a main dealer.
Just gotta see the positive aspects, enjoy the car and get on with my life.

Surely the point that no-one else get get inside the Engine to fix it is not right in the first place - Jo-Speed and 1 other can now apparently! But how doe you really KNOW it needed new heads. I see it's done 55k miles but heads should be repaired and not just replaced - is it a 4.2 or 4.5 heard they are much better from a not needing rebuild point of view now.
I'm sure if someone really had the balls to take TVR ALL the way through the courst things would change - but seems they are bigger than any individual and the individual always backs down first!
Was it stuffed when you got it?
Thrash it an sell before the 1year warranty runs out!
Have fun.

Hi again peeps. I don't think anyone outside the factory is authorised to rebuild engines are they? .. I'm certainly not .. don't know about team proactive, but maybe they have a special relationship with AJP build dept? .. I've just tried to order a 4.2 crankshaft to see what would happen and been turned down!! .. are they actually allowed to do that .. free trade / monopolies etc etc?? I do have a cerbie engine in build at the moment, but that's cos it's possible to source your parts elsewhere if you know the right people
