Leaking rear axle

Hi all,

Just picked up a 96 4.2 the other day, been fantastic up to now, noticed strong oil smell after a blast around some a-roads, checking under the back end the central axle seems to be leaking oil onto both rear exhausts.

Was supposed to have been serviced before I got it so hard to believe it's 'just' happened but listening to other peoples posting maybe it has.?!

Any ideas before I get back to the dealer?

if i were you i would write or fax the dealer and tell them it was leaking since you got it.

mine did the same and the warranty company refused to pay due to the cause being loss of oil! beware its a £1700 repair as they cannot be rebuilt.
