Cerbera sports exhausts
Discussion
I have a sports exhaust on my 97 4.2 Cerbera ,I say sports, I assume it is because it has two seperate silencers on the rear as apposed to the std single silencer which runs accross the width of the car.The question is this if I change the system back to std am I going to notice a significant loss in power or is it negligable. The reason for wanting to change it back is because I would like to do some track days in the car and as it stands I dont think it would pass any noise tests as it is very noisy.

Either buy some bolt on end silencers (e.g. Merlin Motorsport) to quieten down, or it's also quite easy to stick the standard back box back on - do you still have it?
It's highly unlikely you'll lose power by putting the standard later box on (the early 4.2 ones were restrictive though). According to the factory, most sports exhausts they've seen lose either top end and mid range power, or both.
From the rolling road sessions, it doesn't appear to be a big factor either way- there is more variation in the engines (or state of tune) themselves.

I had the same concern (see recent posts). It would be a shame to lose your sports exhaust note just for a couple of track days. The best advice is to invest in a pair of track mufflers. However, different mufflers appear to give varying levels of noise reduction. Demon Tweeks for example only return 3db. This wasn't enough for me and I've sourced a pair for under £100 from Tower View Racing which claim to return 6-12db and can be easily fitted yourself.
